Things non-UTAU users say that annoy you?

I never much tried to talk about UTAU and Vocaloid IRL (only one person really knew about it and m'well, I think they listened out of politeness but they didn't sem inetersted in it though they were still amazed by this kind of program, and the second one I showed her both UTAU and vocaloids and she said "yeah ___ is cool" or "___ sounds like a baby girl" and then they literally worshipped TONIO because like me they thought he was sounding pretty realistic and like an actual person lol However she prefered Camila Melodia over PRIMA in terms of realisticness and overall tone OTL""' ;; -though i love both)

I alo rememeber the geek guy in our class back at college who said about Vocaloid "oh yes, the ones with high-pitched voices who sing cute things ?" (and me thinking "If only you jnew about gomenne gomenne and if you do do (°u°"") " m(__)m )

After generally my family were a bit nitpicking into it (hence why I always want to be FULLY alone at home when recordings both covers and voicebanks, as well as original bits models since those are even harder) and here's in a nutshell everything about it :

- "What's this Dumbpanese thing ?? " (yeah I tried to translate "japoniaiseries" into English but this is the only closest slang term I could make up since I found no equicvalent OTL "' ;; Sorry about it)
- "Instead to do this, you could do something worthier ; heck you're just go there "daaaa taaaa keeee " "
- " Why don't you just sing by yourself ? This is stupid "

also I don't know if this counts but once, when it was the first time my mother looked at an UST, she thought and said "Oh, is this a cardiod ? It kinda looks like the machines we had back in the hospital" (Yeah this is what happens when your parents work or used to work in a medical field OTL""' ;; )

However I didn't have that much bad reactions about utau on the web (perhaps one of my online friends who felt like UTAUlodis were sounding airy and soft but again it was back in 2009-2010 era and I showed them an early cover using Aiko kikyuune ; later she started to like them and see there wasn't only one voicetype in the fandom but she and the other onlnie friend didn't record banks )

Well, my family is kinda interested in UTAU: my father actually understand more or less how it works, and my mum and sister find it very interesting; My other sister is 10 and she really love the characters, she often draws Kasane Teto for me XD

My real life friends on other hand...well, just like milly, they are polite, but it is clear they dont really enjoy it :P

I mean, I try not to get annoyed by things non-UTAU users say just based on not knowing/understanding things about UTAU (like "my favorite Vocaloid is Teto!" or "wow, this (VCV) UTAU sounds so smooth! How'd they do that?!") Because let's face it, that's where we all came from. Can't fault people for not knowing things. It's all a learning experience. It's not like any of this stuff is common knowledge outside of the UTAU community.

I do get pretty annoyed when people are outright rude/dismissive about UTAU things in spite of knowing that the person they're speaking to loves those things. A few things people have said to me that I find particularly obnoxious:

"Ugh, why do you listen to those stupid fake Japanese singers? They're not even real people, so it's not real music"
No human voices = not real music? So I guess that means that classical and other instrumental-only music genres are also not real? Honestly I don't understand why people are so dismissive about this sort of thing; if they just thought of UTAU and Vocaloids as instruments rather than singers, that would clear the problem right up.

"Wow, you waste so much time on this autotuney stuff, why not spend it (insert activity they think is more productive here) instead?"
It's impossible to "waste time" on a hobby you enjoy/are passionate about. Doesn't matter what it is, doesn't even matter if other people like the things you create with it. If it's something that brings you pleasure, then it's productive.

*Any comment on an UTAU video or in person containing the words "weeb" or "weeaboo"*
Dear god. Don't. Just... don't.

And I'd say to those people about it, what about Daft Punk then ? Sure it's not really vocal synthesis like Vocaloid/UTAU but their gimmick is based on robots (and don't forget a few artists like Porter Robinson having used AVANNA or even Namie Amuro having sung in duet with Miku on the song made by Sophie and MitchieM) and I totally agree with classical d(u_u)b

"Get off your computer and do something productive."
This is more productive than you shooting a goddamn squirrel out of a tree.

"Why do you chant like that?"
If I don't, then the voice won't work.

"Why not sing it yourself?"
It's true that I can sing, but what if I have a sore throat and my vocals are not in the condition for singing? I'll use my UTAU.

"Stop listening to all that 'kaka kuku koko' bullshit."
You stop listening to all that Nicki Minaj bullshit.

I try not to disturb my family when I record (only record when I'm alone) so they don't know I do utau anymore, and they actually dont care at all so?? And my boyfriend thinks its interesting, he says that its nice to have a hobby that you actually enjoy so... I never listened to anything annoying from non utau users I guess?
Of course, there were times that people asked me what I was doing and I answered then it was utau, but no one except for my boyfriend wanted to know details and I guess that this is what most annoyed me, their lack of interest on the things I do for hobbies...

I'm more or less in the same boat as @Parapa-kun in that... my family knows it's a hobby, but they otherwise don't care. It's fair enough given that all three of us generally don't share any interests except for maybe a couple movies, shows, etc. (My parents are heavy tv watchers while I only watch a few shows once in a blue moon).

My family would equate everyone to Len or Rin (because I never shut up about len and)

Any UTAU was just a modified Len or Rin voice, lol

"You're gonna ruin your computer that way" (my dad and my uncle say this about anything music related really)
"Why is your computer singing?"
"What kind of chant is that? Are you summoning some sort of demon?" (when recording)
"Why are you obsessed with that [insert random Japanese word] crap anyway?" .............

Also of course in class there's that one guy who always just says "Is that that weeb program?"

I never thought my parents were an oddity until I read through this thread.
I have enthusiastically encouraging parents who know about my love of anime and vocaloid, they like anime casually themselves, my mom likes my utau and she says she loves it when I talk about something I love/ run on about the progress and functions of each version of vocaloid. My parents are overjoyed by the fact I can speak another language altogether and get super excited when I speak it.

The trick to normies people understanding the appeal (Or tricking people into taking some interest) is explaining how it functions as a software, the guts of the program, instead of the visual aspect that's tied with anime (The part that's usually causing the immediate dismissal) If you can explain to them how you're experimenting with human voice sampling (Say something like "It's a text-to-speech software built for the express purpose of creating a singing voice instead of a speaking one") instead of talking about utau as characters. I've done this before with my extended family/acquaintances who don't understand how it works and when you remove any "weeby" aspect it appears cooler and more scientific to others.

I've never had the problem online because most of my web circles (Non-synth related ones) understand that Vocaloid is a thing.

My biggest issue is being called or considered a weeb just because it's a japanese program closely related to vocaloid and i recorded a japanese voicebank to make japanese mucis that i listen to
[doublepost=1489426294][/doublepost]and my brother was kidding, saying i was summoning satan while recording

and one time i brought my laptop with utau on it to school and when the resampler was working ro render the samples, a kid kept asking if i was coding

Oh my family sooo used to be like this.

CMD was a virus, everything I did was a virus, and when my family got a virus (on their own pcs) it was because of me.
I can 100% relate to this one

"What's that? That black screen is bad you don't know what you're doing"
"Why are you yelling/making random noises" (when recording)
"What are you doing?" -- Tells them -- "Uh huh...You're weird"
"Does this involve math"
"Oh my god she sounds like you" I'd hope so man

My family knows that I do UTAU as a hobby but my mom and my sister aren't that interested (though my sister likes Rin in terms of vocaloids). My dad thinks it's pretty cool though and when I showed him my first ever cover of Torinoko City (which was horrible by the way) he liked it. My best friend also likes listening to UTAU songs and my covers, but then there's those people:

"Are you hacking?" just because i know very basic html doesn't mean i'm a wizard at cmd

"Why are they singing in Chinese?" this is why we can't have nice things

"Stop wasting your time on those robots and make some real music." as said earlier, not human voices = not music?

"This is why you don't have friends." asfghjklfgjbhjekdfn

"That screen can give you viruses." omfg

"Are you working with that Chinese program again?" no dad it's Japanese, you've been to Japan you should know
"Wait what's the CMD thing coming up for? Isn't that bad?" dad no it's fine it's supposed to do that

Frankly, when I explain what I'm doing they're like "Oh, okay" because I explain it as being vocal synthesis and for some reason that impresses people.
