Since this is an UTAU tuning fest mainly focused around UTAforum, perhaps the nominated songs shouldn't be by producers who don't even come here or use UTAU? We should be supporting our own community and the producers we have here.

But this festival is supposed to be for everyone in the UTAU community but planned by UTAforum?
I will need more opinions of others on this :cynical:

I think that it would be easier for people to have songs they like to cover if the selection includes utau and vocaloid songs from the western community regardless of their creator's utaforum status. The point of this is to be for the utau community at large, not just utaforum.

It looks like Pushing Dasies and Karma are tied. Is there going to be another vote to decide between the two songs?

Okay, here are my own two cents:
When I first brought up the idea of a tuning festival/contest, I wanted it to be some sort of a revival of the tuning festivals done in the past by the Japanese community since they did not do one for last year, and with the English-speaking community's own twist/preferences (the festival being a free-for-all, for example).

When I started up the discussion, I was intending for the tuning festival to be for all UTAU users regardless of whether they were an UTAforum member or not. While UTAforum was the most appropriate place to discuss it (compared to say, dA or VO), limiting the festival to just UTAforum users is just counterproductive. The tuning festival is supposed to show-off one's tuning for others to learn from, and limiting the participants to just one community, where some amazing tuners are not a part of, loses potential participants from joining.

I see planning the tuning festival here but letting outsiders participate like real life festivals: a group of people plans the festival but those outside the group can participate when the festival starts.

Regarding the songs in the poll, most of them were recommended by people in the chat. As a community, us UTAforum members would be representing what other UTAU users would want from the festival. In the end, whether Karma or Pushing Daises gets the most votes, it is just the optional song. It is not required to be tuned, just recommended.

But of course, if other people object, a lot of things will have to be considered. (but without arguing with me, haha ).

Heeey, you recommend it yourself :P vote for Different Seas instead jk

The poll won't be closed until next month and voters can still redecide their votes if they want. how about everyone votes for Different Seas instead jk

If the two songs keep having the same number of votes until around the last week of August and the total number of poll voters stay the same, then I will have to consider a tied-breaker poll as not to delay the tuning festival any further.

That's good to know. (I actually didn't know that people could change their votes in the polls. lol)

I think what you are saying about Utaforum planning the event and letting everyone participate in it is the way it should be. I think one of the great things about Utau is that it includes everyone. You can have no money and a sub par computer, but still feel like you are part of a much bigger picture, unlike Vocaloid. It's really nice to see this sort of feeling shine through your words.

Sorry, didn't mean to imply that this is some forum only event. Thing is, with people only wanting the most popular songs out there, you're shutting out lesser known musicians in this community. Events like this are an opportunity to bring them into the limelight for once. Kinda goes with the philosophy of UTAU, eh? Anyone can be a part of this, and that includes the anyone who can write the songs we're covering. Celebrities already have plenty of attention.

In no way is this shutting out lesser known artists. They were suggested by people in the chat. I bet none of them said "Let's all get together to exclude not so well known artists that we may or may not know about", they probably said something along the lines of "This song would be fun to cover" or "It would be cool to see how people tune usts for this song". The point of this festival, like kimichi-tan said, is to show off different ways and means of tuning Utau(s) and to have fun doing it. If this means that the song that gets picked to be the optional song is really popular and by a very popular artist, then that's what it comes down to. (And do remember that no one is actually required in any way to cover this song)

There is nothing saying that you can't organize a group of people to cover the songs you are talking about or start another festival/project dedicated to covering those songs. Who knows, some of the participants of this festival may cover those songs of their own free will. We won't know until someone posts a cover of one.

Just because you chose to see it this way doesn't mean that's how everyone else perceives it.

It's a free-for-all, so whatever song you choose doesn't matter. Only the optional song has to apply with the criteria in the first post XD

@Adlez27 @WyndReed To be honest, I have conflicting feelings on this matter. I'm still trying to gather up my thoughts on this.
I would appreciate if others gave their own input on this as well.

@Adlez27 Since the songs in this thread are optional I fail to see how it shuts out lesser known produsers. You can still make a tuning video with a different song of your choice from what I understand.:cynical:

You people are salty af.

How I see it, no one is going to use the lesser known producers' songs. Most (if not all) individuals will simply use a song off the list and that's it.
No reason to jump down someone's throat and belittle them. ಠ_ʖಠ

Then again, I don't really care. Just do your thing.

Hi, umm....@Adlez27 has a point. Maybe we should include lesser known producers. This will give them the boost they need. Maybe next year or next month, Idk how often these things happen, we include producers who aren't as known as Circus, Crusher, or Kenji.

lol @_caustic_

Meh I'm not the one participating in this, I just wanted to stand up for lesser known producers.

Lesser known producers are included in the poll. And again, this is an optional song choice. Optional. You don't have to pick it. Tune with whatever you want.

Perhaps having an optional song choice at all creates this disparity. This festival, to my knowledge, celebrates UTAU users' tuning, not the songs themselves. Which is different.

@WyndReed adlez is just saying we gotta at least give some spotlight to lesser known producers, instead of constantly giving it to the those who have had more than enough spotlight. like the only things suggested by users in the chat (believe me i was there) was karma then the FP songs. along with other songs, but they did not meet the criteria. kimchi added in different seas and pushing daisies. and oops i was just about to bring politics into this but. This Is a Vocal Synthesis Forum not a Political Discussion

@kimchi-tan i'd really like it if smaller producers were given a chance in the optional songs. iirc, the main tuning song is just any song.. a free-for-all? so im inclined to think that people will flock to more popular songs and tune/cover those instead of lesser-known songs. it doesn't have to always be the vocaloid top 10 songs.. there are tons of other vocaloid/utau originals that do not get much attention... in fact, there are times where covers get more than 4x the views+attention than the original. example: negai's "Yesterday". the original song has just over 330 views at the time of this post; CZ's cover has nearly 2,000. you'd think that the original would get more attention and popularity thanks to the cover!.. but instead people completely ignore the original. it kinda hurts as im a friend of negai and... yea. :P

If it's a free for all then why is there a vote for an optional english song?
If you can do whatever then why would you need to vote at all?
