More than 1,000 recordings, is it possible now?

Hello everybody!

So, I was thinking about recording again the English voicebank of my UTAU, but in a different way than the current voicebank, and then I realized that there would be over than 1,000 recordings.
I heard about one~two ago that UTAU may crash if the voicebank contains more than 1,000 recordings, but I don't know if this is true, and if it was, do you know if it is possible to have over than those 1,000 recordings now?

Maybe it's about the oto.ini: only one cannot rule more than 1,000 recordings, but this issue is avoided with several oto.ini thanks to folders.

Ok, thank you for having answered!

Just check out and download an English CV VC bank. They all work, and you'd just need to count how many samples they have and how many oto files they have. Them you'd get a solid answer on that front as well.

That was a rumor going around a while ago, the 1,000 samples thing, and to put it frankly, it's a big fat lie.

I've shoved well over 1,000 samples into a bank previously, UTAU's always loaded it fine.
The theory last I heard was more than 10,000 lines in the oto.ini will mess UTAU up. Not sure if that's actually the case, though, or if it accounts for different .ini files for each folder...
And folders are just to neaten things up once it starts to get messy, not really for functional purposes.

UTAU can handle an oto.ini with 32768 lines (2 to the 15th power). Add one more line and you get an overflow error:

As you need at least one line for sample, well, that's 32768 wavs you can use as maximum (if you don't clone any line).
If you decide to use various samples each wav you have to clone the lines anyway for those so you end with the same maximum of posible sounds.

But the bigger the oto.ini the longer it takes to load. Those 32768 lines take me around one minute to load to edit "voice bank settings"(Ctrl+G).
You can see it loading with a number in the bottom of UTAU (the maximum number of lines start counting from zero).

Ok, I see. So, we can anyway have a large voicebank before we would reach this number of aliases. Thank you!

And thank you too, Shinami and Halo!

You can actually load otos larger than 32768 lines if it's loaded through the editor or via a dll (after you load the voicebank and use it).

But in testing after about 150,000 lines it takes way too long to load to be useful.

So by loaded in the editor do you mean like through a zip file?

so this was necro'd after almost 2.5 years, killed, then necro'd again after more than 9 months
I'm sorry.

I meant loading an alternative oto config file after you open the bank.

Can you point me to a bank that does this that I can DL and study?

He means once UTAU has gone through loading each line of every oto, loaded the voice properties, etc. etc. Once the bank is loaded the first time, it usually takes less time to load it subsequent times. Doesn't matter whether you import the bank through zip or unzip and add it directly to the voice folder/register it.
