Tuning Critique/Advice, please?

Hi, guys! So here's a sample of my current WIP, Black Cat and White Flowers (Sepia Remix). I was wondering; I just started messing around with those autotune-y pitchbends, and the original Miku cover of this song is full of them. But I also really want to include more natural-sounding tuning (because Merry's voicebanks sound amazing and I want to do them justice). Does it sound weird including occasional autotune pitchbends in the middle of more natural sounding tuning? What do you guys think? (For reference, there are autotune pitchbends on "mukai", "kanjou nara", and "wasureta")
Also, if you have critiques for me on things other than the autotune pitchbends, I'd love to hear them. I don't mind negative feedback; it helps me improve, so fire away.

(have you considered that maybe you have the volume on SoundCloud turned down, but that that doesn't apply to the embedded player?)

The fast pitch bends are barely noticeable. The first time I listened through (when I mentioned the volume thing), I was slightly distracted and didn't hear any. This time, I listened specifically for them and at the first went, "Oh, I think that's one?" and went up to your list to check and make sure.

Personally, I'd do more with dynamic range if you can-- you've already got some good dynamics in here. The pitchbends? No. I'd just make them all "human," because the way this song is structured, they're hard to hear and (because of that) if someone DOES hear one, they'll think it's a fluke, a show of shoddy craftsmanship.

If you want to use fast pitch bends for an "autotune" effect, you want to go big, or go home. Sustained notes, notes where it's not buried under chugga-chugga eurobeat music...

Also: you might try a vocoder (with a chorus of saws as a carrier) or merely pitch-shifting in another program (audacity, or your regularly scheduled DAW) for a more raw effect.

I see. That makes sense. Thank you for the tips!

Yeah, I agree that they aren't very noticeable; that's why I was iffy enough about them to ask here. The original is sprinkled with them, but they do seem to stand out a little more than mine do, so I guess they seem more deliberate. I probably would be better off sticking with more natural pitchbends.

sounds good though. I'm not familiar with the original, but I'm guessing it was a lot less-mellow voice? Maybe mixed to stand out a bit more crisply and that's why it had the presence to do a robotic autotune-abuse effect? Personally, I'm perfectly fine listening to the more mellow, "human" version. That's something most vocal-synth users struggle to reach.

Thank you! ^^ Well, the original didn't mix in a softer append; I just threw that in because it seemed more appropriate to me (and I like playing with vocal dynamics.) The original seems to maintain the same, straight tone the whole song. It's just such a long song that I feel like that gets too... monotonous. And you don't get a sense for it without the translation, but some of the lyrics are very beautiful and emotional and I want to be able to highlight that. So yeah, I agree, if it comes down to a choice between the robotic autotune-like effect and a mellower, more human sound, I'd prefer to stick with the latter.
Here's the original, if you're curious or want to compare:
