What's your personal favorite VB format/type?

There are lots of different VB types out there(CV, CVVC, VCV, VCCV, multilingual of the aforementioned, etc)so just for lolz and topkek I thought I'd ask and see what type of preferences everyone has in regards to recording/using these banks. I myself like to experiment a lot and therefore have worked with quite a few types at this point but I have to say that I find Japanese CVVC and VCV in particular to be really fun to record/use! Thoughts? ovo

CV (I know, I'm lame), but I've also been getting used to working with CVVC (recording and using) and VCV (using only) as well.

With my workflow, Japanese VCV is the easiest to create. However, given the fact that I don't even speak Japanese, those banks are absolutely useless for anything other than covers.

In terms of usage, I prefer voicebanks in languages I speak, primarily English. Some banks have a lot of work poured into them that make them especially fun to use, like Adrian's english/multilingual VCV, or CVVChinese voicebanks.

If I like an UTAU for some other reason, I'm happy to use whatever they've got.

My fave is CV because it's so easy to use. That's why all of my Japanese voicebanks are CV even though I know how to oto VCV.

Agreed. There are CV voicebanks out there that sound great.
Definitely. I pretty much could only specialize in CV for quite a while(VCV or CVVC wasnt exactly one of my strongest points until about a year ago heeeh)and it's surprising how many extremely high quality CV banks are out there that are just as good as anything else. Unfortunate because that type of vb in particular tends to be quickly brushed under the rug once one gets into something more advanced

Fair enough! CV is pretty great :creepy:

My sig says it all, but I'm partial to CV as well once a bank's files and oto kinks are worked out. Like @Kiyoteru the only language I'm fluent in is English, and I'm (slowly - baby steps) trying to learn Korean. The only English method that doesn't have my throat clench in fear is Arpabet, so I'm willing to wait for that to be fully realized (or I could get off my arse and edit the reclist to include things that are missing).

I have no use for VCV outside of covers using 3rd party banks that have it. My Japanese banks are more like warm ups for the eventual languages I actually want to tackle.

When I record and create a new Japanese VB, it's often CVVC because....
1) not "boring" to record
2) the CVVC reclist what I use, I record it in just 20min (I recorded a 3 pitch CVVC in just little over 1h and all in same day)
3) actually multipitch works better in CVVC than in VCV because moving to other pitch sound sounds more natural(?)

But a "minus" of CVVC as UTAU-Synth (Mac user) is that I cannot use fansy "autoCVVC" plug-in to do my UST edit job for me... Plus with almost every my CVVC VB following VC sounds (almost) always bad: R, W, Y and specially H! Plus VC makes often my S and SH sound less clear(?) So after end I really use just K, P, T, CH, N and M's VC mainly at the end cuz them are always nice(?) and the rest part used simply as CV at the end (not a big deal cuz I prefer CV format with using and I oto my CVVC a way that sounds totally fine even used as a CV-VV).

CV is easy to use and nice in its own way: well recorded ones needs very little editing and them are recorded usually a way that vowel part is at least 1second long, so long notes sounds less "stretched" than in CVVC or VCV (only minus things are that I found recording it little boring nowadays plus V=>V translations sounds rarely "ear-blessing". Tho easily fixed if recorded VV's in as well too).

But I'm planning to record for as many UTAU as possible a VCV too in future because VCV needs less editing when used and sounds smooth (and people more likely uses the VB cuz many are with CV that "too choppy and unnatural" and with CVVC people are often "IDK how to use it" UNLESS it sounds superior for as CV/CVVC and/or has multiple pitches).

Holy heck, I remember when I heard after very long working what Finnish sounds as VCV (with hella lot full CCV and VCC recordings for extra smoothness) and I was like "holy nuts, so easy to use and actually sounds understandable without subtitles 98% of time!1!!!" But recording and oto it are an another story: That was INSANE. Duh, very unlikely gonna record it ever again.

Hmm... For easiness, my preferred VB kind is CV
  • Easy to oto
  • Just insert hiragana/romaji lyrics ??? profit (no need for fancy shmansy [a か] etc.)
There are some well-done UTAU VBs that don't sound too choppy/ robotic, like Matsudappoiyo and Matsudappoine my love

But I like songs sounding kinda realistic so I use VCV a bit more often (still don't know how to use CVVC and VCCV so RIP)

My favourite bank type when editing ust are VCV japanese, and English VCCV. But if Im really fond of the voice I would use whatever bank it uses *cough* Teto English *cough*.

For recording I find CVVC prefered. Mostly because its short and smooth. Perfect to test different tone ideas!

VCV>CV>CVVC>VCCV

I prefer and am good with VCV.

I can use CV pretty well. Kinda choppy but good even so.

CVVC is kinda hard to work but I can use it. It is clearer than CV but I am too lazy to work with CVVC banks XD

I never saw a japanese VCCV.

For all of them I cant use multilingual, since I dont know which sound each alias represent  And all my fave VBs are getting/got an awesome english bank that I'd like to use

I'd go with a hybrid of CVVC and VCV actually. Gives me more flexibility in timing and stuff. Besides, I find tweaking USTs fun!
Don't get me wrong, though. I'd still use CV USTs whenever presamp is around. Especially when I'm lazy.
CV voicebanks, meanwhile... maybe only if the oto makes a rendered untuned UST by its ideal tempo range sound smooth.
