Okay, so while working on the utau art requests I got recently, I started thinking about my plans for my own utauloids. That made me think of something! (Well, for one, I have this tin that I'd love to be able to put songs or utau in for making fun random covers, but that's not what I was going to say lol) So, I ask all of you utauloid users and creators, what responsibilities do you give yourself when taking care of your utau? Do you stick to certain plans, do you plan weekly song updates, do you make big plans for an birthday anniversary, is that necessary, etc.? I'm curious about everyone's drive for when they make covers, how seriously they take UTAU in the first place, and just how much responsibility they put forth into their utauloids ^^

I always make sure every UTAU I have gets a fair share of covers, artwork, etc. Much like I do with my own OCs, I treat all of my UTAU with care and respect and give each of them designs and personalities that help distinguish one another. To an extent, I also try my best to protect them from harm, though something tells me that I really need to work more on that!

You're already putting in so much effort, I admire you for that! There are tons of people that don't even care enough to take care of their utauloids, let alone treat them so well :D I want to do the same for mine, especially since I don't want to show any favoritism with one of the three I have

I usually plan biweekly cover updates for my UTAU, record new voicebanks if I have the chance, make something big for their anniversary, as well as fixing vbs in the meantime. //rolls
Cool! So do you have any songs that are special to you that you save for that occasion? Speaking of special things, do you plan appends, and if so, how many appends do you think are enough?

I make covers when it sounds decent to Usagi's voice(its quite picky) or when I'm not lazy. It depends on my mood. But I always draw her in various outfits

Sadly I don't have as much time for utau as I'd like, so I mainly do things on the fly. I'd love to be able to keep up on birthday/anniversaries though. I do plan appends and all that jazz time to time but I never get around to recording them.

Ah, I see. It can be hard trying to accomplish certain things when having a busy schedule. Happens to me all the time since I have school. Do you view mixing and tuning as a hobby?

Ooh different outfits sounds cute! To me it can show off an utau's personality with all the various outfits they can wear X3 Plus it can be really fun to draw ~
And I get that. Some voices sound right for slow songs, or may be too energetic for these songs, etc.

Indeed. It makes me sad when I stumble upon UTAU users who actually think that way. What I do to prevent favoritism is to make sure I put enough effort into developing each UTAU's design, voice, and (for some) personality yet make them diverse to use them for various types of songs. At least that's how I do it. Everybody has their own way of doing things, so it might be different for your UTAU.

I don't really have any regular plans, very few hard-and-fast deadlines, and more just a to do list of what I should get done whenever I feel like it. But I don't want to say that I don't take anything seriously, because I really do. It's just hard to do a whole lot of stuff when you've got to manage real life too, you know? There's also the fact that I don't actually care very much about my own voicebanks and such. The projects I prioritize nowadays are music-writing ones.

I usually do everything on a whim now a days, making deadlines for things to be released and such really take the fun out of a hobby. I feel like making too many plans especially as a full time college student can really stress me out but I still have ideas for where I'd like to take my banks in the future. Nowadays I tend to focus more energy into getting ideas for/working on Mayu/Aphelia rather than my other UTAU since I feel a better connection with them.

The most important thing in my book would be to offer solid support for your voice bank after you release it. Be open and ready to help your users if they have any issues with your voice bank. Actively request issue reports (bad samples, oto mistakes) and routinely release both minor updates (fixing the aforementioned issues) and major updates (overhauls, new appends, etc). Far too many developers just release their voice and then they're done, except for perhaps adding new features. Most people's only updates are complete overhauls, which means that small issues as mentioned before hang around forever.

^^ Of course. It helps to have any constructive criticism that'll be good for my improvement, so long as it isn't blatant trolling, suggestions and advice are great! And yeah, I see a lot of people make one cover on YouTube of their new utauloid that doesn't sound very good, and immediately release them afterwards :/

Yeah, that would definitely sap the fun out of things. I wouldn't want making covers to feel like more of a burden than fun ^^ Although for me it bothers me when I should make updates for something, not because I necessarily have to, but because it's been like months since I did '^^

Don't worry so much about releasing covers and art. Those are all peripheral to the basic duties of a voicebank: sounding good. Focus your energy on honing down your voice to the maximum extent you can, pre- and post-release, rather than spending your time working on covers and art (unless your goal is simply personal entertainment and you enjoy those things, in which case have at it).

Thanks for the advice ^^ I'd hate being overwhelmed by thinking I have to upload all the time, although I think art wouldn't be too much of a hassle for me since I draw all the time X3 As for mixing and tuning, I have yet to see firsthand, but I know that even with all my current utau studying I have a lot to learn ;^^

Tbh I'm one of those "neglecting" utau owners as I haven't done much with mine for like a month now. Barely tuned anything with her, haven't fixed/recorded pitches, etc. I love my utau, don't get me wrong, but right now I'm just really occupied with school and other utau stuff.

While I take UTAU "seriously" as in I always put my all, I see no obligations towards my utau as it's only a hobby that consumed my life and giving myself obligations wouldn't make it as fun or like a hobby anymore.

I want to add on this thread instead of making another one that virtually explores the same thing ;^^

So for your utau voicebanks, what do you think needs to be included, in YOUR bank, like should your utau have things like vocal fry, certain amounts of breaths, extra sounds/noises, anything you feel you should be responsible in including? In addition to that....

Do you think things like cover art, MMD, and PVs are necessary? If so, why, and when, and if not, why not?

Also, what about things like actual voicebanks? Like, do you feel your utau should have CV, and VCV, or something else with something else, or just one bank all in all?

I have made plans for USAGI but I doubt it'll ever be done.

I honestly prefer covers with art or PVs(like what I do to my videos) than MMD. I don't really like MMD as much. And I find it quite unappealing.

I prefer VCV, mostly because I think it sounds better and easier for me. I don't use other people's utau so ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌

I have no responsibilities for my vbs these days. Between working, unacommodating family, lack of proper internet (no wifi at home and I'm capped to 2G speeds past 5Gbs) and just... lack of motivation, I haven't opened UTAU since November.

My base requirements are...
- CVVC. CV if append/experimental
- 3 pitches if append, 5 if natural
- breaths are optional
- I can't growl/screamo, so that's out of the question (unless I move out to the middle of nowhere and get lessons from a metal artist?)

I usually just do basic PVs for vb debuts or release to soundcloud/clyp.it.

I like seeing PVs, too, used to it more. I like MMD when it actually looks nice, but it is hard to use so creds to the great peeps that can make it work! >=< ;^^
