Combining voicebanks?

So, I'm entirely new to UTAU, but I really enjoy using Yamine Renri because of the way I can just add a letter to the end of a note to choose which of her voicebanks plays (eg. - あC for her Clear voicebank). I want to know how that works, because I want to do the same thing with Gahata Meiji's voicebanks. Bear in mind that I have no idea how things like otoing work, so very detailed descriptions of what to do will be thoroughly appreciated

Yamine Renri uses Alias feature on UTAU, Alias is a feature to name a lyric with 2 different characters(Roman/Kana letters)
---Oh wait, i'm wrong, let me fix it----

In this case, she has one phoneme with 3 styles. If you want to have combined VB like her you need 3 voice samples of 3 styles for a same phoneme and name them "あW","あC",and "あE"

So, I've got five voicebanks that i want to do this with and I've settled on the suffixes F, H, L, M, and bc Renri's "normal" voice style will play without any kind of suffix, I wanted to make the fifth voicebank like that so that it'll be kind of like a "core" voicebank. So, where am I changing these include to the suffixes? I'm not just changing the file names, right? Do I need to configure my folders a specific way?

If you want one of her VB to be the core VB, don't add any suffix on them.

You should change the oto.ini too....So you have 5 Appends of Gahata Meiji:
- Go into one folder of her Appends, Rename all her .wav files (You did it Owo)
- Open all her .oto ini, and add the suffix you want (i.e =0,50,50,1260 to あF=0,50,50,1260), then save
- Move all her renamed samples into the core VB folder, so that there'll be A_i_u_e_o.wav, A_i_u_e_oF.wav, A_i_u_e_oH.wav, and A_i_u_e_oL.wav .etc
- Open all her oto.ini files, cut everything inside her 4 oto.ini files and paste them into the core oto.ini file, then save
- Open her combined VB in UTAU, and check if it works

All the samples should be in one folder, cause UTAU will only play samples that are in one folder
Let me know if it works or not 'w'

Okay, I'll try that out tomorrow and let you know how it works out! I'll also make a back up of all her voicebanks just in case I screw up or it doesn't work lol

So, I haven't changed any of the files yet because I thought of something that I should ask. Meiji's voicebanks are multipitch, is that going to change the process in any way?

Hi! There's no need to edit file names in any way. The only thing that will affect how you call notes with suffixes is aliases.
If you're trying to combine multipitch banks, the pitches must match up. Is that the case with Gahata Meiji's bank? For example, every voicebank has G3, C4, F4, etc. If any of the pitches aren't the same, they won't align anymore.

This is what I think the original folder structure is like.

Voicebank 1
Pitch 1
Pitch 2
Pitch 3
Voicebank 2
Pitch 1
Pitch 2
Pitch 3
etc.

To combine them, you must restructure the folders like this.

Voicebank
VB 1 Pitch 1
VB 1 Pitch 2
VB 1 Pitch 3
VB 2 Pitch 1
VB 2 Pitch 2
VB 2 Pitch 3

UTAU cannot read more than one folder deep.
In each multipitch voicebank, there is a file named "prefix.map" that matches each recorded pitch of samples to music notes in the piano roll. If all the pitches are the same for each voicebank, you can simply use one prefix map for all of them in the main folder. But in order to use prefix.map together with suffixes for expressions, the pitch suffix must come after the expression suffix.

Edit one oto.ini at a time. Let's say that you're editing the A3 pitch of a soft voicebank. When you open the oto.ini as text, such as using Notepad, it will look something like this.

filename.wav,a かA3,500,150,-600,100,50

Go to Find + Replace. You can usually reach this with Ctrl+F or Ctrl+H. In Find, put the current suffix, "A3". In Replace, put the suffix you want to have, and the pitch, like "SA3". Do this for each folder. If you don't want an extra suffix, leave it alone, with the pitch suffix.
Then, each of the folders will have a suffix like: SA3, SC4, SF4, A3, C4, F4, PA3, PC4, PF4
When you use the voicebank in UTAU, you'll do things like [kaS][e][ru][noP][ u ][ta][ga]. Because of the prefix map, UTAU will actually look for files aliased with names like [kaSA3][ruC4][noPF4] etc. according to what pitch that note is on. And because we set up the OTO to include pitch suffixes, each of the pitches will still be called normally.

Good luck!

@Kugutsune9815 , @Kiyoteru - Sensei has arrived!~ He knows and explains better than me

*Raises hand* I have questions, Sensei...We don't have to change the file name, i see, but aren't they going to be taken as a same file since they have same file name...or because they'll be (or they are) in separated folders so we don't have to change the filename?
I'm thinking eventho we can get Meiji's VB combined without changing the filename, aren't the Appends filenames going to look same when we open VB setting?

And the prefix map, do we still have to touch 'em or not?
I'm a little lost on these matters....Please help me...

Because the files are in separate folders, there's no worries about them overwriting each other. UTAU will be able to understand just fine which file and which folder the aliases and otos correspond to. So, that's why file names can stay the same.
As for the prefix map, well, as long as all the pitches in every bank is the same, you can just keep one prefix map and put it in the main folder (outside of the subfolders).

Maybe you could try just choosing one pitch from each voicebank to use, even if the range gets limited.

I thank you all for your kind help, but unfortunately, not all of Meiji's voicebanks are recorded at the same pitch  However, I'll keep all this in mind if I decide to do this with another voicebank in the future!! Your instructions were very clear and I appreciate all the help @Soursop the fruit and @Kiyoteru

Anytime, bud. Glad we could help you thisrealizesmetodigUTAUmore, super thanks to u
Ah...That's too bad, but it's ok
Maybe you can still try with @Kiyoteru 's way if you still want Meiji's VB combined or try other VBs w/ this method next time, it's up to you

Cheers!~

Okay, so, I picked her C#4 pitch because it was common amongst all her voicebanks. However, all of her oto.ini files are completely blank when I open them in notepad???

Hmmm...
Are you sure it's empty? try to double check them by opening it in notepad
If it's really empty, make a new oto.ini file by making a new blank file and paste all Appends' C#4 oto.ini backup into it, load the new oto.ini and add a prefix you want
How's the folder structure..Is it like this?:

- Folder
VB 1 かC#4.wav
VB 2 かC#4.wav
VB 3 かC#4.wav
Oto.ini and friends...

or...

-Folder
- VB 1 folder
かC#4.wav etc.
- VB 2 folder
かC#4.wav etc.
- VB 3 folder
かC#4.wav etc.

- Oto.ini and friends

lol current prob solved then. Keep going, bud
So, do I need to move all the samples within a voicebank to one folder??? Like, I have a folder just named "Meiji" and a folder for her soft voicebank, which is named "Fairy". So do I need to take all the recordings out of Fairy and move them to Meiji?

When you have a voicebank folder, you're able to have sub folders inside of it for separate pitches, or appends. You cannot have subfolders inside of subfolders, because UTAU wouldn't be able to read those.

Meiji folder
character.txt
readme.txt
prefix.map
Fairy folder
fairy-recording.wav
fairy-recording.wav
fairy-oto.ini
Other folders
other-recording.wav
other-recording.wav
other-oto.ini
