This seems interesting, thanks for sharing. I'm excited to see what will come of this in the future, and I'm also curious about the price. I checked the products section of the site and it seems to only go over what they offer, but not the prices themselves.

I believe the price for the software is still being negotiated, it'll definitely come with future updates though

I agree with Info-chan. Way to bluntly dismiss any competition. I get people are biased toward their own work, but to say basically every current singing synth sucks feels pretty childish coming from a CEO.

edit: I also wouldn't say needing subtitles for english songs is uncommon. It isn't exactly a measure of quality and many people need to read lyrics from human singers too.

I'm definitely aware of some of the vibes and issues with this article, I just figured I'd share it anyhow. I truly hope this does not impact peoples opinions of Julian because being the 'untrained singer' I am, I have been putting a ton of work into getting him recorded and making sure things are able to run smoothly with his production. I again apologize for anyone who was offended by this article from the bottom of my heart.

You have no reason to apologize, you didn't make the blog post, it's obvious that Rodolf whatever used your working examples to flaunt something that's not even finished.

EDIT:

Tbh after listening to these samples a bit more, it just sounds like spliced syllables pitch corrected and timed. Anybody else hear it?

I think it's just like, a marketing strategy. It's upsetting, yeah, but at least they did not names any software they judged "bad".
And since they did not named anything, someone who don't know anything about vocalsynths won't be like "Ew vocaloid sucks because Emvoice said so".
I think vocalsynth in general have this kind of marketing approach because there is a LOT of vocalsynth being produced now and they gotta get noticed somehow. Heck, even Yamaha makes cocky marketing for vocaloid.

The thing is that Yamaha can take the kind of marketing strategy because it's still miles ahead of the competition in usability yet miles behind anything not vocal synth related am i right? and was more or less first to play ball.

Soho is a bit late to the party and we still have yet to see a real demo (where we can see it's features and core functionality). They need to find a real way to differentiate themselves without gimmicks or they will go no where.
Non-vocalsynth producers won't even use things like Vocaloid (or even software like realivox's) because they don't like the sound/result and Soho right now is in that pit too.

(yes, I'm extremely negative)

*Made an account to talk about this hah.

In regards to it being an untrained singer, it's true, but also untrue. The singer had to be able to hold a pitch for the most part, and actually be able to sing to even be allowed to record for emvoice. Rodolphe also had some singers the reclist multiple times until they were within 1/16th - 1/8th of the pitch of the note they were recording at, and for any errors, they were seemingly fixed with Melodyne. So.. it may be an untrained singer, but it leaves out the fact that they were made into a 'trained vocal' (odd wording, but I hope it gets the point across).

I do also agree that Rodolphe was very... cocky for lack of any other word in regards to how he described his own product which currently sounds like it's being tuned to correct pitches manually. It sounds like a program that is being rendered on one pitch at the same tempo/time for each note/word, and then altered in something like Melodyne to be on pitch/time.

Also, it seems that at least the female speech vocal was recorded at the singer's lowest pitch, and only one pitch, which... isn't good, especially when you're using that singular, lowest pitch to show off the product. They also sound like they may have been sick when recording... but that could just be because they were recording/the voice was rendered with their lowest pitch.

And in regards to the pitch thing, has it been confirmed by anyone that their vocals are multi-pitch capable yet? I know Rodolphe has said they would be (I think) but as this is supposed to come out early 2018, I would hope that the multi-pitch is already a component that is ready and usable...

Finally... the fact that no one has talked about the fact that it's just a VST/AU... I know CHIPSPEECH and A/E did alright/well in sales, but... I don't really see how he thinks a VST/AU plugin would sell as much as a standalone, especially when sold without a DAW. - Also the fact that the VST isn't even made yet? He said it was originally JUST going to be a MAC AU, but now he's adding VST capability, which means they'd have to rebuild it from the ground up for a VST (because of a few distinct differences between VST/AU), so it seems like it may be delayed because of that, or they'll pull a VoxWave Leora and release the product without it being fully done (*without the VST version).

Multipitch is a thing in Vocaloid and it is definitely do-able in UTAU.

Oh, yeah I'm aware of that, I just meant if Rodolphe was going to implement it into SOHO, or if he already has, as... it's a major thing in regards to realism.
Ohhh, alright! I gotcha now. Sorry, I just woke up and I guess failed to comprehend your post, haha.

On that note. I would hope he implements multipitch.

Oh jeeze... Do you know if it has been used in the demos, or if those are early renders with the first pitch?
Im under the assumption that the multi pitch has been used, unfortunately I'm walking a fine line of what I can and can't say about the software thanks to the NDA I signed, but I am trying to give as much information I feel possible. Sorry about this all guys, even though its not directly what I'm putting out, I do still feel involved. As you can imagine I am going through some of the same emotions you all are with it.
