I think it also depends on how many pitches you're doing. eg, if you're doing 8 pitches and have each pitch a 5th apart, that's, like, 4+ octaves; you'd have to me Mariah Carey to record that. I think the more pitches you have the closer together they can be. eg, I were only doing 3 pitches, I'd probably put them each a fifth apart to cover more range in fewer recordings. But with 5 pitches I have them a major third apart to give a smoother transition between pitches.
I intended to do 7, with the pitches being F3, A3, C4, E4, G4, B4, and D5. But I've been told 7 is probably a bit excessive for VCCV, so I'm trying to decide what to cut and what to keep. I've finished A3 and C4, and am doing F3. (I really want to keep F3, so I may scrap A3 and keep C4)

I just wanted a general idea of what would be too many pitches, or not enough.
What's a major third? I've googled it but sheet music does not compute with me.

a major third is 4 half steps. Also the interval between the first and third scale degrees in a major scale or the first two notes of a major arpeggio. The distance between 2 notes is often expressed in terms of intervals (unison, second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, octave)

idk, I kinda like VBs that have a crapload of pitches. I think it helps with their tone and realism a lot. If you're up for all the recording, I say go for it. I'd be more concerned about the oto limit than anything, though.

UTAU can handle an oto.ini with 32768 lines (2 to the 15th power). For all 7 otos combined, I only get 24,003 lines. (Provided my calculator is right.

I personally want to do 7 pitches but if it's a turnoff for most people I'm ok with cutting some stuff out, I can just keep the 7 pitch vb as an alternate download or something. I guess I was just curious if it was stupid or not to do so many pitches so close together. UTAU tends to distort my samples a lot and I don't like it.

What do you guys think of multipitch VCCV, and how close of a pitch is too close?
For example, I've done A3 and C4. Do I keep both, or drop one?
VCCV multipitch can be a bit weird, especially with usts that move the connecting notes, but I do like the idea of it and mutipitch is always nice to have

I think A3 is a bit close, I usually try to jump a bit more than that, but if it's recorded keep it. For my multipitch the base is C4, and the next one is G3, so not that much diffrent than yours. Especially if your going to have another pitch lower (it's hard to get tooo low if your female T.T)

I've had F3 in progress for a few days, it's as low as I can go before it hurts. OTL

In my experience it's actually more like 60,000 or 50,000. it's possible that 32,768 is where the overflow error starts showing up, but it doesn't actually do anything, it just pops up the first time you open voicebank settings. (so you don't have to worry)

My VCCV multiptich has a TON of extra notes and I can get 8 pitches out of it.

In general, I think more than three pitches is ridiculous. UTAU automatically changes the pitch of your vocals to begin with. The only time I think recordings begin to sound robotic/unnatural is when you go 3 octaves above the base pitch. If your base pitch is a G4, then having a A4/#, E4/# seem unneeded. Abby's power bank starts as a G3 and can carry all the way into a

A3 and C4 are too close in range to me, perhaps an A3 with E4. But if you hear a better quality with those pitches, then keep them.

With VCCV, clearly there are a lot of samples to begin with. I think you have to be very selective in the pitches you want because
1.You're going to invest more time and starting over would suck
2.Nobody wants to download a big file and not see much of a difference in pitches.
I think 4 is probably better, a base, high low, and the one for an extension (high if your female and low if your male) that way you can break those extreme notes. The if you want extra pitches can be power or soft instead of range

same! that's my lowest pitch for Trei. I'm going to try and get a lower one for Rei, but I'm not that hopeful

SOOOOOOOOOOOO

What are some voice-types you guys are interested in hearing for VCCV English banks!

I was kinda wanting to see more cute type banks similar to Darling or Haruka Nana. Also, I would like to hear more masculine sounding voicebanks.
