Any software other than Audacity and Cockos Reaper?

THIS IS REALLY URGENT, WHICH MEANS THAT I NEED INSTANT HELP NOW.

I don't know if I post this on the right section, but I just want to try my luck here. Apparently, I'm trying to search other DAW softwares other than Audacity and Cockos Reaper, simply because Audacity gives me lots of headache and Cockos Reaper often crashes, especially when my laptop only has 1GB RAM. OTL

I have downloaded some programs such as Traverso DAW, Wavosaur, Wave-Shop and Mixpad. I was supposed to stick with Mixpad until when it crashed at several times. Even I try to download LMMS software since many people claim it as "powerful", but I'm afraid if I have done wrong choice. Should I try LMMS or not? Also, can anyone suggest ONLY free/open source DAW software that I can use everyday?

I really need to get a better DAW to mix UTAU cover songs.

I would recommend either Cubase or FL Studio.

For free ones..... FL Has a demo version that lasts forever, it's pretty nice, the only downside is you can't reopen your projects after you've saved them.

Although you won't be able to run any DAW smoothly with that RAM. (Also, this topic would've gone in the "music" section I think)

As a user of lmms it is quite good but their an learning curve to it that you must go through but you can make quality music and mixing. But it can be difficult to mix in it.

The demo version of fl studio is good but it requires 2 to 4 bit of ram. so your laptop might lag alot.

Theirs is a program called Mulab it has a nice friendly interface and their is an free version.
Your are limited in the free version compared to the purchase one ,but buying it is cheap enough, 69euros.
I used it myself, just watch some tutorial and you be alright.
Also I don't think it's all that cpu and ram hungry.

Their a website called softonic you can find free programs in their too.
Also i think you should install more ram into your laptop at least 4Gb of ram or get a new computer/laptop because most programs especially the newer ones need to use that much to perform well.

I hope this helps.

Also what operating system are you running because that could be the case.
if it's over xp your alright.
As well check what type of computer you are, a 32bit or 64bit because that could affect the performance of the program or make the program not to run at all.
check when dowloading any program.

Mulab...I will try it. I'm considering to install more ram on my laptop but not now. Even I'm currently using Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit).

8GB only costs $70...trust me...it's worth an upgrade (if you can)

I just built a new PC for $400, overclocked it and utau screams on the thing!
EDIT: if you only have 32 bit windows- you can't go over 4gb...

I don't know how old your machine is, but with only 1GB of RAM, you should consider...
- adding RAM (even though you'll only be able to work with 4 GB max, it's still an improvement)
- dual booting a linux distro (linux relies more on kernel than memory & most open source DAWs are made with linux in mind)
- getting a new, up to date machine (32-bit is fading away and you'll have more upgrade options)
- downgrade your OS from ultimate to home basic (most of your memory is no doubt being used up by processes/features you don't need such as aero)

For DAWS, I suggest looking through here: Audacity Alternatives for Windows - AlternativeTo.net
Keep in mind that no matter what DAW you use, you're better off doing any/all of the above in the long run. Windows needs at least 2GB to be just minimally functional and activities that are memory/CPU intensive such as music editing is simply not going to go smoothly.

You can also optimize your winows manually, it's simple, quick and I droped 1gb of ram from my os usage

Any daw should be good, just get to learning it!

I know how old this thread is so I request that the mod will close the thread immediately.

Well, from the replies above, let me summarize:
  • FL Studio is a good software for mixing and creating MIDI but it depends on how much money that I need to buy, because most people will say "there's nothing free in the world". I'm not even an expert to use it and the interface looks so complicated but I will try FL Studio, maybe in the future.
  • I manage to add my laptop RAM up to 2GB but not now.
  • I think I will not use LMMS and Mulab because of the difficulty for mixing and creating instrumental, especially when I'm blind at music (having no any music knowledge).
  • I have successfully adjusted Windows performance and the laptop works better to me while maintaining the OS.
  • I should thank some random guys on Cockos forum (I don't remember when and where). They suggest ASIO sound device to be used with Cockos Reaper software to avoid 'click and pop' (main problem happens during mixing session) and when I try it, it REALLY works very well (although it's sometimes weird but still okay). Thus, I have decided to reuse Reaper software for mixing.
Thank you for your help by providing logical replies.
