To be honest, Windows 8 was okay, I liked the flashy screen and stuff. BUT, windows 10's start menu is ugly... The screen is nicer.

I've heard they couldn't use the name "Windows 9" because Window 95 and 98 also start with 9, and would cause compatibility issues with badly coded software. (where in the code, the badly coded software would check if the os starts with "windows 9" and group the two together, instead of checking for both 95 and 98 on their own.)

About the software coding, well it is said to be a plausible theory but it is not confirmed yet by Microsoft themselves (if you were meaning the compatibility and such like State has talked about above)
