So since UTAU-Synth started working again, I decided to install more voicebanks on it. I tried Gahata Meiji's voicebank, so I did the right steps, used The Unarchiver, move it to the voice folder, and converted it to a .utau file. However, when I try to open the file, though UTAU-Synth opens, nothing happens.

I've tried it with different voicebanks but I only get the same result.

Can anyone help me with this?

Sadly it seems that UTAU Synth always malfunctions a lot. A lot people just recommend downloading the Windows version and opening it using Wine.
Windows UTAU is about the same except it doesn't have the automatic VCV thingy. I had a lot of issues with UTAULOID voice banks on UTAU Synth and usually I could only get Ritsu Namine to work. I also especially had trouble with Gahata Meiji on Synth. I think maybe Synth isn't that good at taking voice banks that are complicated like Gahata Meiji's. Maybe try checking the prefix map and aliases in the OTO. They were the main problems for me on Synth.
Good luck. I hope they improve UTAU Synth too, because UTAU Synth doesn't have an option for using different resamplers and some UTAULOIDS will crash if they don't use their recommended resampler. The monthly code thing sucks too. rip.

You know, I think that's actually the problem. The prefix map and the OTO. It's different in UTAU-Synth isn't it?

I'm pretty sure the oto.ini is supposed to be a text file, though I don't know how to properly change it. I tried renaming it to oto.ini.txt, but it just turned everything into mojibake. Also, I noticed that Defoko's voicebank comes with .spef files. Are these part of the prefix map?

EDIT: Hold on a sec. I think I just solved it. I dragged the .utau file onto the voice icon on the top left, and the voicebank I was using started working. I guess this problem is resolved, but I still can't do it the easy way. Nevermind that though.

I honestly wouldn't use Defoko's OTO settings as a reference. They're not that great. I don't know much about the .spef files, so I'm not sure. The oto on UTAU synth is supposed to have a different file extension which is why it sucks imo. I don't think it was meant to be changed. Synth is so problematic, i gave up using any voicebank other than Namine Ritsu or Akemi Kinko on it. I would still recommend trying the Windows version though, since it's likely you'll find other problems with Synth. For me I can't even re-download Synth again because the link for the dl gives a 404 error.
