How do people add effects to vocals ?

I don't know how to really explain this post but I'm working on a cover of splatter party and want to make the vocals sound creepier or at least cooler

You add effects via VSTs but these will only work in a proper DAW (Reaper, Mixcraft, Studio One, etc.). Studio One doesn't allow for 3rd party VSTs at the free level, but does offer more than Audacity and allow for better control. Reaper is another free option and so is FL Studio Demo (but the demo means that any saved projects will not be opened, you'll have to do everything at once).

In reaper, there should be a mixer at the bottom with different tracks and the volumes. There's a button that says "fx" where you can add different built-in effects or VSTs. Equalization (EQ) is a good way to change the tone of the voice.
