I am looking for someone who makes original vocaloid/utau music and can teach me the basics of jpop music making and what vsts to use/how to use them to make what I want. I just need to be taught the important stuff and someone to lead me the way through my learning process and if I have any questions they can answer it so you'll be like a tutor, a coach, a sempai or whatever you want to call it. I just started using FL studio a month ago but you don't have to have that program to teach me. I also made a very small song for experimenting with the program but haven't posted it yet but can show what I can do if needed. The type of songs I want to aim for is like DJ Amaya's old remixes like Mikazuki Enishi, Update, and I believe remix. Whoever can help me I will draw your UTAU in return(it has to have a ref. and desc. though) my art can be found here: http://xkirameku-lunaix.deviantart.com my soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/djkururu

Please don't tell me to go Google hunting. I already did that and it's not much of a help. I am a hands on experience learner. Also no one answered me in other Vocaloid forums or gave me a cold shoulder so please don't do that. (I'm timid and have bad anxiety).

I could help with FL, but not with jpop.

Hi! I can't be a full-on tutor, but I can help. Posting what you have made already would be very helpful!

You must first have a basic understanding of music theory (understanding what makes music sound good, understanding and picking chords and keys, etc). All other information, like VSTs, using DAWs, and producing in specific styles, are irrelevant in producing if you don't have a basic grasp of music theory. You can get started here: https://www.musictheory.net

VST is short hand for "virtual studio technology," but usually refers to plugins you use in DAWs. VSTs can come in the form of virtual instruments or as mixing plugins. To use VST instruments, load them in your DAW and use the MIDI editor. VST mixing plugins can help you with EQing and compressing or giving a certain sound in your song. If you're interested in taking a look at what kinds of VSTs are available for you, I'd recommend going through Bedroom Producer Blog/BPB and KVR Audio, as well as looking through the @freevstbot on twitter.

If you still need a start on the usage of FL, I say you should watch this:

That's all I have. If you have any questions, just ask or PM me!

    Hiya!

With pop music it's all about picking the right synths, modulation, and sidechaining if needed. I'm not so good with programming synths to sound good, but if you ever need critique on an original or want tips whenever you can shoot me a PM or give me a Skype there to help you out!

Zoku gave a good chunk of resources, and FL Studio has a lot of good synth presets for EDM.

Another thing that helps, if you know basic music theory, is to take a few songs you really enjoy and listen and analyze them. Separate the songs into sections. Does the intro have bass? Piano? Drums? Vocals? How long is that section? What about the verse? My EDM class had us do that the very first week, and it helps a lot.

Music theory is something you pick up over time and it's alright if you don't know everything right off the bat. Hell, I still don't know the names of the chords I use. As long as you know to keep in the key you choose and have basic rhythm you should be fine. The best thing you can do starting out is to stay in key until you're comfortable--getting out of key will cause your song to sound dissonant, and listeners will be put off by it.

Try experimenting with 4/4 time at around 105-140 BPM (4/4 at 120 BPM is often the default of most DAWs) with these as your basic VST instruments: lead synth, backing synth, bass, piano or electric piano (or something similar), and a drum set including kick drum, snare, toms, hi-hats, and a crash symbol. That should be enough to play around with and get started!

Again, shoot me a PM if you want some critique or to talk on Skype, friendo!

Oh whoops I forgot to say but I know what VST's are sorry. DX I learn from ear and hands on experience not from talk so music theory discussions doesn't help and bores me/makes me zone out that's why I need someone to show me then explain it. Here's a small song I did while playing with FL Studio: http://vocaroo.com/i/s0UMW7Aohag8

Is it okay if you could upload to Clyp.it? Vocaroo can sometimes ruin music quality, so it's tough for me to clearly 'assess' (for lack of a better word...) your music.

Also, you can always add me at Zoku#7699 on discord. If you want to talk on Skype, PM me!
