This is NOT an any way official, or related to Plogue. It's just my curiosity. There's been some discussion on how Alter Ego should license its developer kits. I decided to make a poll to see everyone's opinion. Here's a further description of each option: - Open: exactly as it sounds. The kit is open for anyone to download or purchase, and there is no official distribution channel: distribution is up to the creators. Any profit is derived from sale of the dev kit itself. - Semi-Open: similar to Open, however there would be an official distribution channel/store, and commercial sales would be restricted to here. In order get your voice bank on the store, you would have to submit your bank to them where it would be assessed and released into the store only if it met their quality standards. Because sales of banks is restricted to the official store, profit could be effectively derived by taking a cut of commercial sales. - Semi-Closed: similar to Semi-Open, however any voice banks created with the freely available development tools would be heavily restricted, or there may not be any freely available kit. - Closed: the dev tools are only available to corporations under contract. These corporations would then do the task of finding voice providers via auditioning or similar measures, and they would be responsible for quality control and marketing. Profit would be made by whatever deal is made with the company in the contract. Also, in the Semi-Open and Semi-Closed models, you could have corporations contracted to do the role of official/commercial distributor instead of Plogue having to do this themselves.
