Hello all! I noticed a lot of people asking for mic recommendations lately, so I thought instead of having people end up being bombarded with all the suggestions, I'd make a thread to let the asker pick which mic sound they like more! Because you never know if a mic recommendation will suit your voice, because all voices respond different to mics.
__________________________________________________________________________________
How it works:
  1. The same mic can be present more than once in this comparison thread to showcase the different voice types on that particular mic
  2. Anyone can comment the various mic tests they have from different mics, for example: I have used a Logitech headset, Megadream, Samson Meteorite, Blue Snowball ICE, Blue Snowball, and the Blue Spark XLR, therefore I can submit vocal comparisons for all the mics I have used.
  3. To Submit
  4. You must provide a raw string of sounds, preferably "aaiauea" or something along those lines. If your bank is CV, CVVC or another method, please combine multiple samples into one recording. (like a VCV would) this is to ensure a long enough sample
Do's and Don'ts
Don't:
~Submit an EQ or Noise removal edited sample.
~Cut out silence, white noise, or anything else from the samples. We would like to hear what the absence of the voice sounds like as well.
~Submit an UTAU bank that was NOT recorded by you and YOUR mic. This is strictly you being upfront and personal on your recordings, regardless if you know of an UTAU being recorded on a certain mic or not.
~Lie about the mic, self explanatory
~Promote a mic, just stick to what is being asked please
~Lie about any vocal editing

Do's:
~Try and submit a sample recorded in the best environment, or at least consistent(ex. None with people screaming in the background)
~Use your utau with it's best sounding resampler
~Be straight forward honest with your submission
~Include banks voice acted and non-voice acted
~Upload samples to either SoundCloud, Clyp, Mixcloud or any other playable and non editable link
The UTAU example must be acapella

Please upload the samples some place where you will not delete them
Please fill out this form when submitting:

Voice type, voice type description, Voice acted?, pitch the sample was recorded in

Side note: More Mic categories will be added when a new mic not listed is submitted

Ohh, I like this thread's idea.

Every time when I see a thread someone asking "the best possible mic for $__" it's always a "fight" between two mics... ALWAYS *sigh*

The whole mic thing has begun to be almost like a religion where others believe to X to be best and others Y to.

And I've seen that often people who prefers X/Y has often same/similar voice type (so no real comparison between X and Y IMO) and even more often people have bought in their whole life only one or two mic only (and if they had bought two mics, them are rarely those asked X and Y ones both, so reviewes can be biased with one what they don't own), so I think that this is great that many different people records same strings with same mic (and hopefully around in similar recording environment), so people can hear difference themself and pick up that "oh this mic works best with my voice type"!

Because after end we all have different voice type and different mics works differently between different voices.

Yes! This is one of the reasons I stopped recommending mics, though I always put " but each voice acts differently with the mic " or something always along those lines, but then people would come in and try to argue with me because they personally didn't like the mic.
So I thought this would be a good idea, because you're right, in the end of a mic suggestion thread, it always comes down to two people fighting about 2 mics, and I think that's pretty ridiculous. Now (hopefully) people asking the question "which mic should I get?" can come here and go through the various voice types on different mics, people will still ask the question, there is no stopping that, but I hope once they get suggestions, they'll look here to see which mic would actually suit their voice type ^^

Voicetype: Soft and natural. Mezzo Soprano voice at A#3.

Recording situations: the first string is done shortly after the computer (Dell E6400) has been off and is relatively cool/lukewarm (this morning at 6 am). The second string was done last night around midnight. The computer had been on for several days and relatively under heavy load. Due to lack of space/mobility, the laptop is located directly under the mic. I'll try to record with the laptop away from the mic for "best situation" simulation if deemed necessary. I'll also present a test using my dad's laptop which has a quieter fan.

UTAU (m4/model4): https://clyp.it/bhqil5yi

Order: first set of phonemes, second set, mix of both
