Ohhh! My derp. I guess in your previous post the "UTAU" part didn't register with me xD I get it now. Well I still like both. So with your REAL Garagband example and the others Ranun posted I say that with hard work they can sound pretty good and that garageband quality sounds better with more techno/remix songs then with songs that require a more natural sound.

I've never owned a Mac tbh, I don't really like using Macs(my school has 'em in the library) because my PC has spoiled me rotten haha;; But I like the garageband ssound when it's used well -nod-

@Saki
Ahhh;; I wasn't trying to make you sound like a dummy honest xD Just trying to make a point is all ^^;; If you ever do something with the Macnes and your review again you should talk to people who have used them, I'm pretty sure we can direct you to some recent covers that have had work put into them desu~ And we could also give you first hand experience on their voice files and such since you can't see 'em yourself. Like if you need a simple rendered wav file or something ya know?

And it's alright, really. This is a discussion thread after all xD Different opinions will be said~

I personally am incredibly skeptical about it since that video is the only thing I can find that mentions those voicebanks but who knows? I kinda wish they'd update the other Macne's though(the Coco's and Papa).

Yeah, thats what I was thinking. I'd like for Papa to be updated as well, but I'm not too fond of the cocos. :P

I tried looking into it with machine translation a little while ago. It looks like there's some sort of contest going on to design Nana's appends, but I can't figure out whether it's a just-for-fun fan contest or something that's going to result in a new voicebank.

I'm wondering whether or not I should buy Shiro...I don't have any feelings for her voice, but I feel I have a good chance of being pleasantly surprised 8| I might wait for her 2S but then I might regret never having her original, haha >__>;;

I wonder what Papa's voice will sound like when he's updated. I hear there's supposed to be some distortion with his samples, so I guess he'll sound alot less...I'll say, pillow-y? you know what I mean? The downside being that people will lose the chance to use a unique voice like Meta said. Maybe they should release him like Lily XDD

@Ranun: Does Garageband have anything resembling a formant filter? I've tried Nana's "a"s in a straight resampler before and it gets pretty distorted XD like any voice recording does, where the low notes are all weird and uhhhhh sounding and the high ones are all elfish. Cartoonishly weird g-flag kinda stuff...does this affect use of Macnes in Garageband?

I don't know. I haven't looked into GarageBand too much yet. xD But they're also able to sing in Reason. I wanted to test it out but my download crashed OTL so I'll do that later.

This is made with Reason and two other programs.

And I think the contest was/is for a new Macne. There is a video on Mac Fan where they look at some of the designs.

Hey, has anyone tried using the macnes in Sony Vegas? I think that would be interesting. I think I may test it out...

I don't have access to Vegas anymore but you should try it! xD And let us know of your results of course -nod-

Well, here's a little test:
[soundcloud]http://soundcloud.com/anttaffy/montblanc-sasayaki-test[/soundcloud]

Pitching correctly is hard as heck with Sasayaki since some samples are really breathy, and vegas does NOT make it easy. Also the last four notes are hilariously wrong. I tried moving them down an octave but it sounded weird.

But the good thing about vegas is that you can make the whole AIFF shorter, including the consonant, so it gets rid of that stretched consonant problem, and doesn't change the pitch of the note.

It has a cool sound! :uhm:

I just read on the Macne site that they can be used in FL Studio...I really wanna try it out now XD

Ant:
1) Are you using Sasayaki default oto? I heard masao-san oto is better (is somewhere around the forum)
2) As you say, on the last parts goes seriously off-pitch. Have you checked the Modulation to be 0 when rendering this?
3) If the consonant in the oto is too long, you may fix this using a bit of consonant velocity or reotoing.
4) I am not sure if TIPS works with AIFF files, maybe converting the files to WAV and using other engines like TIPS would be helpful (TIPS sometimes work well with breathy banks).

Those are the advices I could give you towards this sample; yet I know working with sasayaki may be a bit hard, yet the results are lovely = w=b!!

This was done with Sony Vegas Yue, so I don't think those tips will work xD However people, definitely keep these in mind for when you're working with the MACne's in UTAU~
I know when I've used them I've had a problem with their consonants being too long, consonant velocity is a nice way to fix that.

What's consonant velocity? Is it something in the envelope, the flags, outside of UTAU? :uhm:

It's the box under Overlap and Preutterance. 100 is default. Higher = faster consonants.

Hmmm not exactly.

Consonant Velocity affects the "Consonant zone" not the consonant only. How ConsVel actually works is that it uses the preutterance as the "center" of the compressing process. The Consonant Zone (pink) will compress to the preutterance (if 100+) or stretch away from it (99 or less).

This will obviously make the consonants shorter, but also will affect part of the inconsistent vowel that you covered with the pink to not stretch via "Vowel zone".

This is why some "consonant velocity" /prevents/ the slurr in VCV, yet it won't do a miracle if the VCV is badly oto'd and requires an insane amount of ConsVel to fix it. In VCV, the compression (depending in the oto method) may need a large amount of vowel to compress (the previous vowel).

I been thinkin to make a small article respecting this "myth" that consvel in the future. For now, I just expect this has been a bit more clear for you.

:D

Is STP the same thing? I always use that instead for CV VC English, and it works.

So I finally got Shiro

she's the oldest that's up for sale, and I can see why Nana and Petit needed updates e_e Anyways, she has a cute sound to her voice. She came with lots of cool samples actually XD Like, "nana-chan?" "puh-chit-chan?", and laughing even. The editor doesn't seem to want anything to do with those samples though :'( It was probably something I did setting up, or maybe something that'll be fixed if I convert to wav...

I'm cooking up a first-try sample, but I might not post it because 1) engrish, and 2) Radiohead's "Lucky" on acapella isn't the choicest demo : P
