Hey, I'm new to UTAU and looking for some good ENG/JP VBs

Teto's Territory
Just as the title says. I downloaded UTAU literally today and I want to start learning how to make music. What are some good voicebanks and .USTs for beginners to use? I've already downloaded Teto's ENG and VCV voicebanks, but other than that I just have the default, Defoko.

Since I am also an artist, I am considering making art for my songs/covers and uploading them to YouTube, does anyone have tips on how to use Adobe video editing software (I have the Creative Cloud.) and/or starting a YouTube channel?

Any answers are greatly appreciated.

scratch that, Teto is deciding not to sing at all

I have already moved the .wav files into the ‘voice’ folder and she’s still not working, ENG and JP both don’t work

hi! make sure you're using Japanese hiragana for Teto's Japanese voicebank, and the right phonemes for her English voicebank. Check the voicebank settings and see the "alias" column for reference. It could also be that your locale is not set to Japanese and has messed up some files. As for voicebanks, look in the showcase tab here or in the UTAU Wikia! Look for UTAU covers on youtube and see which voicebanks you like  Best wishes!

Thank you! I managed to get Teto's JP voicebank working after I typed this post, thank you for the advice as well, this is very helpful

Oh also, how do I check the voicebank settings? And I did set my locale to japan, but it seems it messed up anyway :0

Go to the Tools Menu then click Voicebank Settings. You will see all the wav files with their respective alias. English Teto is a tricky voicebank! I think there's a plugin for her that lets you "translate" words to the phonemes she uses. If you're a MAC user like me and can't use plugins, I think there's an official page that sort of explains the phonemes she uses? And then you cross-reference that with a website that "translates" English to the International Phonetic System though sometimes it's easier to just go by ear...

Oh, thank you!! I'll hold on to this for future reference, currently I'm just desperately trying to learn how to tune JP Teto. I downloaded a plugin to help me tune apparently (I watched a tutorial video that recommended the specific plugin) but it just opens up another window that I'm not sure how to use... any tuning tips? Sorry to keep bothering you.

My tip is to look for general tuning tutorials and experiment to understand what everything does. I haven't done a lot of covers and stuff like that, mostly just worked on making my own voicebank and trying to make original songs, so I don't have a ton of tuning experience. Personally, this tutorial was helpful for me even without the plugins. Having the "shapes" in mind, I then edit manually by right-clicking the envelope curves like so (in this case I specifically click the little box/dot) :

"Add control point" will allow you to create the shapes from the tutorial, and "Curve" creates different transition effects between notes depending on the shape chosen. I'm assuming UTAU on Windows has similar features, I forgot to ask which one you use but I'm assuming Windows based on you being able to use plugins.

yup, I'm on Windows- sorry, should have clarified that. I've actually kinda figured out tuning solely by screwing around with it lol, but I now have another problem: most VBs that I download WILL NOT WORK, no matter what I do... I had AL!CE working but then she stopped for some reason... so the only functional VBs I have are Teto (Eng +JP) and Defoko.

I did manage to make some covers tho,, some constructive criticism would be greatly appreicated (Please read the descriptions)

This is the second one, and the first one is also on the same channel.

also, this is what I see when I right click on the pitch bends :/

I feel like this question would be more suited to the UtaHelp tab in this forum. This is a bit of a common problem so I recommend searching the Tutorial Directory and just keywords in the search bar there to see if your problem has been solved in the past. If you can't find a solution, then I recommend making a separate post there. I kind of forgot this was the Introductions tab lol

Softening the transition between notes would improve it as the original song has a very soft, flowy singing style. Mixing is ok and the voice sounds clear to me. You should post your covers in the UtaWorks tab to get more feedback, you can even directly tag your post as "Critique Requested"

Best wishes!

Hi, welcome to the UTAU community!
Some voicebanks I personally think are very good and easy to use are:
  • Juni Ginkuro (especially his +HUSH voicebank)
  • Kohaku Merry
  • Fushi Murasaki
  • Kazehiki
Those voicebanks are really good and I love them.

I can't give you a lot of advice about starting a youtube channel, since I am quite new to youtube as a creator.

I don't use any Adobe products for my videos. I use Aviutl, but I've heard that Adobe After Effects is great for making videos!

I tried to download Murasaki, and I put her files under 'voice,' I don't even see her as an option. Adding her as an 'other voice bank' doesn't seem to work either. In fact the only ENG UTAU I can get to work is Teto, which doesn't use regular phonemes apparently... I want to cover "Circles" by KIRA but the .UST wasn't made for Teto and I don't know her phonemes.

I'm trying to learn to use AfterEffects and it's working well so far. I've been able to post 2 covers to youtube. (My channel is Cloud Burst if you want to listen, but I'm warning you, they're bad x.x

If you had UTAU open while you were putting Murasaki's folder in the voice folder, you can go to Project/project property/voice/reload voicebank and that should work.
If you didn't have the program open while putting Murasaki's folder into the voice folder, maybe it's because a problem in the UTAU program. I had the same problem too and I had to uninstall and reinstall UTAU. I know, it's super tedious but it worked for me.

I don't use AE, but it's great that you're learning to use it! I think you can add audio waveform display or something like that. Those things make videos a lot better and fun to watch! I will for sure go check your channel (*cough cough* my channel is AnnYann *cough cough*)

If I uninstall and Reinstall UTAU, will it delete my UST files??

Also I will check out your channel~
