Ok so i hope I'm not the only one who feels this way but anyway have you ever met someone in real life that says they are "fans" of Vocaloid but yet when you ask them who there favorite is they say "Miku!" or if say you tried to talk to them about any vocaloids other than Miku,Rin,Len,or Luka they have no idea what you are talking about? well this annoys me and if anyone else has ever felt this way could you please leave a comment telling me about it?

I'm aware that at my school there are quite a few people who are somewhat interested in vocaloid. There's plenty of anime fans and typically they have knowledge of the cryptonloids. The thing is though, it's not usually their main thing or whatever. Different music tastes and such. But there were no less than 3 Hatsune Mikus at the Halloween party.

The problem with me trying to explain it to people is that I'm on the creation side of this- I have the perspective of a producer rather than a fan so I'm usually more like "oh it's a really cool program that can sing for you" than "yeah there's all these characters that look cool and they sing too"

I have more luck online with getting unknowledgeable people interested in the technical aspect because of explaining things like being able to make the characters of Taco Bell Soap Opera sing stuff. ((On another note I haven't been able to work on those banks...))

I have two friends who know about VOCALOID. One is a Gakupo fangirl, and the other is an IA fanboy.

I have lots of vocaloid fans as friends luckily enough but I know some miku cosplayers here that only know miku =n=

I agree, I usually think from the perspective of the producers. Like, I have a friend who always talks about the mainstream stuff and the mainstream songs and it's like "Ugh just please talk about something besides miku."

I dunno, Miku can be good, but it's just getting a bit old hearing about her.

Personally, if someone only knows of MEIKO, KAITO, Miku, Rin, Len, Luka, GUMI, or Gakupo I laugh when they say that they are a fully devoted VOCALOID fan.

We all start somewhere. I remember when I had absolutely no clue who Kasane Teto was or what UTAU even was.... (Triple Baka changed my life :sing: )

@Ruko4Ever it's ok if you're new to it/still learning, what annoys me is when people are like

"AMGEE AI KNO MEIKOH EHND KEIHTO NAO SO I AM VOCAHLOID FAHN MASTAH NOW"

Sadly, I have no any real friend who knows Vocaloid until I met a Chinese friend who knows Miku and the Kagamine Rin & Len at least.

The problem with me and finding real life vocaloid fans is that they're usually the type that happen to listen to cryptonloids (as described)

And I CAN talk about cryptonloids, because dear me Miku is one of my favorites. But I'm more of on the producery side, and the overseas side, so nobody has any idea what I'm saying when I talk about CircusP or miku's pronunciation problems.

I do not have any friends in real life whos into vocaloid or anime (or kpop for that matter), and I haven't really encountered anyone who behaves in the way you are describing (more than me when I was in my weeaboo stage that is). But I've gained the knowledge that people who likes vocaloid genereally only knows the more famous ones.
I'm very much also into the technical aspect of vocaloid and utau, rather then the visual part. It makes it hard to describe something so cool and amazing for a person only intrested in the cute avatars.

I think the cute avatars are an important part of UTAU.... I know some people are like "its an INSTRUMENT" But words dont come from an instrument that seem to have emotion and soul. To me its more like a person. And its always nice to put a face to a voice.

I have a lot of friends who are into anime, but only a couple who like VOCALOID. I'm the only one out of my friends who actually UNDERSTANDS vocaloid though.

I've always had irl Vocaloid friends but they always focused on Miku and very old Vocaloid songs. I like Miku just as much as the next guy but let's move on to the other Vocaloids please? //sobbu I need to talk about my love for the others;; But yeah sometimes they don't even know where Miku is from.

This one acquaintance I have has bucket loads of Miku wallpapers on his laptop and when I asked if he knew about "The World is Mine", assuming everyone that knows a little bit about Vocaloid has listened to this song at one point, and he had no idea what I was talking about. He found her on Google and just started stacking up his folders with her pictures. Didn't even bother researching more information about this character. It's sad but meh.

This was me. I avidly collected random anime pictures for wallpapers, and I had lots of Rin, Miku, And Luka, before I knew anything about them!

on the pronunciation problems, that's understandable... most fans never actually buy vocaloids or consider writing their own songs, as far as I know. plus a lot of people, at least the ones I know irl, who like vocaloid are kind of young (read "going through their weeaboo phase") so they can't afford the software, and it's hard to convince parents to buy an instrument that comes on a CD.

I recently just met someone who pronounced "Gumi" as "Gummy" needless to say, I changed the subject rather quickly...
I do feel, though, that if your favourite Vocaloid is Miku that there is nothing wrong with that, but if that's just because she's the only one you know about that it's not really being a real fan of Vocaloid as a whole, and mainly just a fan of Hatsune.
I don't have a problem with people like that, though, I myself only really liked Miku for a long time before I discovered Gumi and she became my favourite.
