Edit: So it seems this is being taken the wrong way, this thread has nothing to with the way your utau sounds, this is about drawing your utau consistently. A better/clearer example.
I draw my utau a lot, it's practically what my DA page is filled with, as well as my utau/oc is the only thing I get commission for. I personally do this because it's the only OC I have, but do you think it's narcissistic to do that?

Just out of boredom and curiosity, let's discuss something!
I"ve notice some people in the community think it's weird or even self centered to like your utau so much, but not the voice, the character itself, if you don't understand, I'll give an example
I see my utau as not only a singer, but just an OC as well, so I use them in other works, the fact they can sing is just a bonus in my eyes.
I tend to draw my utau a lot, and it's all I ever get commission of (because they are my only OC I have xD)

But I also like drawing them, it's not like I'm going around saying "HERRR MA GERD MY UTSU ES BEST"
I just find joy in drawing my baby, I like drawing other utau too but my child is what I mostly draw
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What do you think? Is it self centered to like your utau/consistently draw them/ use them for whatever purposes outside of utau?

Not in the slightest! That's just taking pride in your work. I had thought you meant either bragging too much or like...falling in love with them or something, lol.
Characters are wonderful imaginary people and are a special extension of their creators. There's nothing wrong with thinking of them similarly as you would your child because you created them.
I also get a wonderful rush of joy seeing them come to life when they're drawn, so it's understandable. Not narcissistic either, unless you're constantly patting yourself on the back for making them.
So no, to me it's just fine and not a bad thing to love your creation and make things of it often. Just don't over attach like me or flaunt it all the time.

Loving them/liking them as their own character outside of utau is one thing, but flaunting them at people and practically throwing them in people's faces only for the purpose of trying to brag about how great they are
yea
I personally don't like that

Well, like I said it's different than what I had thought and not as bad. Besides, characters are supposed to be relatable and loved, that's what makes whatever they're in worth seeing, no? You have my approval. ^w^b Which means little to nothing.

No, cause that's your 'baby.' It's only natural that you have favoritism towards something you came up with. Writers, game devs, musicians, and people who make film also feel the same way about their own works and characters most of the time. Being proud of your work isn't the same as being self centered or full of yourself if you're not touting said work as 'the best thing since [insert noun/name of choice here].'

Honestly, just like everyone else said it, as lnog as you don't go "OMG IM THE BEST MY UTAUS ARE TEH BEST SO CLEAR SO GUD NONE CUN RIVALIZE3 EVERYONE ELSE IS CRAP DUSO" yuo're really fine.... To be honest, when it comes to my UTAUs I'm liking them just right in the middle.. It's funny to see this thread because this morning i was imagining what I could put onto their official website (once I've at least released one of them for good once) when I would set it up (with separatae trivia and such for the voiceank in itself and then the charcter/mascot tied to these )

However it did happen sometimes I felt like even while being in beta they sound weird or what, but msot of the time (to not say always) it was modtly me being more upset at myself than against them for not being able to make them sound good

Also I will tell yoou something really weird having happened like, one or two years ago or so (ah my poor memory)... It happened with Kei Den (my only dude) and yeah.... I wouldn't say it was at the point of falling in love like some people wuold do, more like just plain admiration or "contemplation"... Because i was probably so happy finally having found the right tone for him and he was really just like how I imagined his voice and character to be, or maybe because he's the only guy of my crew and he needed some attention... But it only lasted a few weeks, not even a month.... And eyt i was highly surprised to have a slight hype since I'm nt that confident in my voice, even pitched down, so no need to say I was feeling awkward.... But I think it was probably the only time i was really at my highest level of pride in my UTAUs, because the only other ons I would go that far in liking would be mosttly Sakanne and Rose....

The fact you work a lot on them, that you even simply create a voicebank nor the character you would like to tie to it, all of this leads you to have some pride in your UTAUs, even when yoou're more on the low self-esteem side

So basically, it's fine to like your UTAU, and the ideal would be being in the middle, not hating on your utau but at the same time you're not thinking they're a special snowflake and treating them like Gods/goddesses of UTAU everyone should bow to

(Also sorry for the typoes and weird way to put text, but it's bugging )

Don't worry about the typos! I understand. I've seen it happen to other users and it happened to me once, it's not so much the voice that's the main focus of the thread, at least that's how I had intended it, but it just seems like some people get accused of being narcissistic because they simply like to draw their OC/utau some characters are just utau but in my case, it's just a regular oc and an utau, I can't say the same for the people who have also gotten accused of being self centered because I don't know if they use their character for just utau or other purposes. But I honestly don't see why it happens, if ya like to draw your utau, then draw it, this thread was meant for discussion because if there is anyone on here that thinks constantly drawing their utau is narcissistic, I'd like to know why they think that
Now if anyone wants to discuss voicebanks, I don't like my current banks xDD

Oh oops my bad OTL

Well for characters, yeah I do to draw them quite a lot and also enjoy their characters (I think about precisions and such, that may be Victoire then who takes the cake lol Her bio is so long)

Then in my case, the "using UTAUliod as an Oc n other fcs / universes" is kinda reverted as a few of my UTAUs were likely the UTAUloid versions of OCs I've previously created, mya they be fan characters for my favourite manga, nor even a minor chracter in an origina story of mine

But yeah I'd do the same comment as for the voicebank side, as lnog as you don't fall into the "my utau is best chara ever on Earth" and all that jazz it's fine and not too narcisstic

Honestly, I think it depends. If you're going to polish yourself in front of people constantly and not acknowledge them, then yes, I think it's narcissistic. If it's just someone just saying "Yeah, I like how my UTAUloid sounds; I'm confident in them", then no, I don't think it is. There are many more parts of this that lie in the gray area of judging whether it's narcissistic or not. Heck, there are some gray areas on narcissism on a whole.

Mainly I think this lies more on context, connotation and interpretation. So, I'd say the bare basics of our general social lives. There are so many shades to us talking to each other and understanding one another it can even be hard to see narcissism or see just someone talking about how their UTAUloids sounds good or something.

I have updated the thread, because it seems as though everyone is getting misled and thinking this is about voicebanks and the way an utau sounds and being too cocky about the sound,
I apologize!

I don't think it's self centred at all :-))) I don't usually draw my UTAU that much but I have 3 OC's that fill up most of my drawing book so ;-\\\\

I think it's good to see creators draw their UTAU! It kind of shows how much they care about them and how passionate they are about their creation. It's really sweet. Fanart is always nice but it's kind of like, when the creator makes art, it's like their official art in some form? Of course it's always nice to see someone be proud of something they worked hard to make.

I don't think expressing yourself by drawing your OC is bad at all. Of course if you were boasting, bragging, showing off, etc. (like a certain person the entire world is talking about right now), then I'd consider it to be narcissistic!

I don't think it's narcissistic at all. So long as you aren't always bragging or anything about them, then no one can really call you out for drawing them. I personally draw mine all the time, especially for future song covers or just for fun.

A good example on an artist there draw their UTAUs a lot would be Gintjid. As much as they are "retired" do they still very often draw their UTAUs. I myself draw lots of pictures for my UTAUs. The more you draw them, the closer you get to them.
