While I understand the want to censor curse words to keep the forum PG, the correction of other words, notably UTAU,s to UTAU, is completely unnecessary, and, quite frankly, a bit condescending. All other users I have spoken with agree that this feature is extraneous and unwanted. For me personally, I type very intentionally, and turn off autocorrect on all devices; having my words changed without my consent and, in the case of this forum, without forewarning, is very upsetting and stresses me out.

This may seem like a trivial thing to be perturbed about, but it is not the forum's job to "correct" others' grammar, especially in the case where it is not actually incorrect. Please remove this, or at least provide an option to turn it off.

Agree strongly. I also believe that the regular censors should not be so obvious, "sexual relations" disrupts conversation a lot more than "fudge" would.
Personally I think the "sexual relations" censor is hilarious, but it is a bit distracting and, again, changing people's words without their consent. I'd rather it just be changed to like f*ck or even ****

This isn't the first time this issue has come up (in particular the auto-removing of 's' in front of many pluralized Japanese loanwords like "UTAU s" (I had to add the space to get the "s" through), so I doubt anything will be done about it.

I suggest you preview all your posts, & if you don't like what the autocorrector does, go back & edit it.

I don't even get why swears have to be censored in the first place, I'm sure most people on the internet have heard/seen other people swear a multitude of times, unless they're very sheltered. I remember seeing swears while using the internet as early as when I was in grade 2, and that's only because I couldn't read at all before grade 2.

this is a child friendly forum, we mast keep things as G as possible for tjose who still watch the wiggles and play hopscotcchhhhh.

Though, most of the censorship was added as a joke at the community's expense. All unnecessary and such.

The Utau(s) censor was the result of a debate regarding the adaptation of foreign words into english. It ruins context though.

I agree that any censorship that's there just to f u c k with us should be removed.

As a linguist, I believe that the adoption of foreign words into a language is a natural occurrence. However, this essentially means that the word now has an English translation that just happens to be the same. Therefore, it is now technically an English word, and should follow English grammar.

For instance, when we adopted the word "tamales" into English, the singular become "tamale," despite the Spanish singular being "tamal," because plurality in English means adding or dropping an "s." Most of the irregular plurals we have actually come from Old English, before the Vikings came to the Anglo-Saxons and introduced the simple way of pluralizing words.

The same goes for how we may adopt adjectives from Latin-based languages, but we still put them before the noun, not afterwards, as English grammar dictates.

There is debate on this amongst other linguists, but this is my personal stance on it.

At the same time we also have more recent adoptions where the pluralization rules from the origin language are also carried over.
English is a mess lol.

as much as I would like the 'UTAU/s' censor removed, I can't imagine Hentai doing it. Last I knew he was pretty particular about how he wants his censors set up.

I wish this thread wasn't in vain, but it isn't like the admins are gonna listen. People've complained of it in the past and it never changed, so.

If you want the admins to lend you their ear, you'll have to contact them directly through their social media (usually skype) and give them valid reasons to ease up on the filters (or at least change them to something that doesn't break the flow of conversation such as asterisks). They're not on here regularly. It's unlikely that this thread will be the first thing they see when they do log on. They're not on their skypes regularly either cause they have jobs and other things to occupy their time. It's not a solution, nor is it ideal, but for the time being... unless you can get in contact with an admin - @Halo or @MystSaphyr - then maybe change the way you type. There are ways to make a strong point or express displeasure beyond just the use of profanity - and there are ways to get around the filtering if you absolutely, positively can't change your habits. As for the UTAU/manga/anime/insert Japanese vocabulary word here not being plural... @Hentai has insisted on this for years and he's not gonna change it, no matter how much it may cause confusion/mess up grammar in terms of English... -_-

It doesn't really mess up grammar. There are English words whose plural form is the same as their singular form, and they're fish and sheep. There's probably more, but I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

That's true, but in the case of certain words such as UTAU, this one has a double meaning which can throw some users off:
- The front-end UI of the synth that we interact with
OR
- The voice library that users create

A lot of people use the word interchangeably to mean their voice library or they want to refer to multiple libraries by using a language marker that implies plurality like UTAU + s. Of course, this can be side stepped by using 'voicebank' or voice library for the voices created for the synth and UTAU just for the program itself. *shrugs*
