Chasing Constellations

Teto's Territory

We're an UTAU and Vocaloid songwriting duo of stressed friends doing our best!
I say we're because technically we're a songwriting duo, but this account is managed just by me ! (celest)

So hello! I made an account here ages ago but it fell by the wayside while life got busy, but I'm back and doing my best to be active here!

I'm looking forward to meeting all of you!

Our Original Song Channel
Our Cover Channel
Our Soundcloud

Why separate your channels, though? Wouldn't you get more traffic if you put both originals and covers on one channel?

It's more of a copyright claim thing? We've already had to deal with claims on covers, and we'd rather be able to produce content without worrying about that sort of thing!

It definitely makes sense that we'd get more traffic but it's also about catering to different audiences (and also so that I can post stupid memes on the covers channel without my partner protesting)

We've actually recently considered merging the channels, but with copyright strikes becoming ever the more common on covers, we decided it was best to keep them separate.

I didn't actually know vocaloid/UTAU songs had content ID claims on them often (although I suppose a lot of record labels will usually claim stuff so if that's what you're covering mostly there's that).

Fair enough, good point!

Yeah unfortunately it's Sony Japan and NBC Universal Japan are both automatically filing claims on covers because of YouTube's audio detection system, so if you cover a song by a big producer ( Hachi under Sony and DECO*27 under NBC Universal), they tend to send out a strike.
It's really unfortunate that things that clearly fall under fair use (musical covers) are still being subjected to these claims.

Have you had any luck submitting appeals for 'em?
I guess probably not since you have a small channel but I wondered if you're still sending them regardless.

We were able to appeal on our Sand Planet cover with Kaito and get it to stay up! But we never really know when the company will just reject the appeal, as YouTube doesn't review these things, but leaves it to the labels ;;
So keeping them separate lets us still have the ability to have our originals if the cover channel goes down
