XYS? Where to find? How to use?

So I keep hearing about XYS'd voices especially around when rough concept vocaloids come out (the newest being vivi)
Is there a copy of the program for general use? If so where is a download for XYS?
I assume there must be limitations to it or otherwise there would pretty much be covers everywhere where XYS is used to blend voices together from a soft append to a harsher append.

any info I can get on XYS would be great

XSY is the 3 letter abbreviation for the Vocaloid 4 parameter "Cross synthesis".
http://vocaloid.wikia.com/wiki/Cross-Synthesis
Cross synthesis is typically restricted to different voices for the same character, such as between Kiyoteru Natural and Kiyoteru Rock. All Internet Co. vocaloids can also be crossed with each other, and most AHS vocaloids can be crossed with each other.

XSY between different VY1V4 banks is demonstrated here:

The reason XSY often comes up when it comes to Vocaloid scams is because a "new vocaloid" can be presented using a hacked blend of two existing vocaloids.

Ah! thank you for the reply! I was wondering what the "restrictions" were. I normally hear about it for "scams" and such but I know there's a positive part to it as well. I was hoping there was a way or alternative for smoothly blending utau voices or appends into one but I see now that its only for vocaloid which is unfortunate. Hopefully there could be something like it in the future but then again that would open doors for people who steal utau voices since they might possibly blend existing voices together to call it their "own".... either way, ty!

Namine Ritsu's voicebank for v.Connect-STAND can smoothly blend between different tones: http://www.canon-voice.com/connect.html
It's for Cadencii, but going to ShurabaP's website (linked on Ritsu's page) will have instructions for converting an UTAU voicebank. It's probably not stable.

There's also the zynaptiq MORPH VST plugin, which can morph between 2 audio signals smoothly and achieve the same effect of combining vocal tones. http://www.zynaptiq.com/morph/ There's a 30 day trial, and the full version costs $179.

ahh yeah I've heard of doing with through cadencii but I've heard its tricky to work with but it gets cool results and the utau's definitely sound more vocaloid-like.

I didn't know there was a plugin for morphing but looking at the price I see why I've never heard of it.

If you want to do XSY with your own UTAU bank, I see no reason why you couldn't just record different tones and add specific suffixes to each. Surely you could blend things in a similar manner?

Recording multiple tones would result in multiple, distinct tones, rather than a smooth transition from one to the other. But you could experiment with Moresampler's "Mt" flag, since it can distinctly create very soft and very powerful tones from the same neutral voicebank. Even if it doesn't replicate the exact effect, it has great use in tuning. Here's an example.

I'm aware of the use of suffix to appends to allow for switching of tones between voicebanks but like kiyoteru said its not the same blending or morphing of two samples into one. It's something I plan to get back into using, especially for an english vb since I havn't seen any usage of that but the result would be amazing

I should really try using moresampler instead of fresamp but I love the sharper sound of fresampler so much ack :O

XSY in Utau is not possible natively. However, we have been doing what Crypton called "EVEC" for years before it was even a thing.

Moresampler can be used to blend between two vocal tones due to how it functions. Just place your main not and a slow same vowel blend to transition.

If you want something more like what Vocaloid does then the only tool that somewhat matches is Zynaptiq Morph which is $180.

You should be able to use an automatic phase alignment VST and pan between the two voices. Just render the two banks with the same exact tuning and absolutely no MOD to avoid variation. Then its a matter of setting up the sends.

Important note about this technique is that it will only work for single notes, and you still can't transition between vocal tones across something like a whole phrase.

Thanks for the additional detail on Zynaptiq Morph. Should be useful if anyone here decides to try the 30 day trial for their projects.
