I need help with setting good base pitches.

I'm back! I'm officially alive!! This post has been a long time coming too.

So i've actually asked this question before as my status but I wanted to post here to get some more help. Some of you should know that I'm the voice of the utau Fresa, and she's female, thing is though, I'm male. Most of her banks have been scrapped and made a W.I.P because she never sounds feminine enough due to this. Over the months though while I've been away, I've been practicing my own higher voice range that I might be able to use.

Now I'm also planning to release another female vocal (cu04) with a young sound to her voice, but I don't want her to clash with Fresa's range just in case, even though her voice type (by my own voice acting) is different.

I was wondering if anyone here could help me pick out some good pitches that I could record for Fresa (and cu04) and see if, due to the higher pitch, she sounds any more feminine, and maybe give me some tips or tricks to help with it too.
Fresa's very first Japanese alpha release (only had a few sounds btw) was recorded with my laptop's mic rather than the proper one I have now and sounded a bit better, any help is appreciated! I can send some demos or vbs too if you'd like.

tl;dr: fresa doesn't sound feminine enough and i need good pitches and some tips/tricks to help her sound more fem.

how many pitches are you planning to record and what is your comfortable range?
suggestions v
Bipitch: C4-G4 or A3-D#4
Tripitch: A3-D#4-A4 or C4-F#4-C5
Pentapitch: G#3-C4-E4-G#4 or A3-C#4-F4-A4

So like fun fact, I really don't know my comfortable vocal range, but I was doing some youtube videos on it right there and I could do A2-G5 (dunno how accurate these are but like yeah not far on the high side) but thanks! ill keep them in mind. i was using c4 before and that's where she sounded pretty masculine (or more well, like me.)

"Raising the laryngeal cartilage raises your pitch and creates a more feminine sound. Dropping the laryngeal cartilage drops your pitch and creates a more masculine sound."
WikiHow can be useful sometimes, eh?

more like wikiwhy But anyway, thanks! I never thought it would become such a challenge to do this, and also to try not to merge the voices (aaaa)
a lot of people would just say to have someone else voice it but i just feel like i have to (but also wanna) do it myself yknow?

I'm wondering if there's any other guys who made female VBs, this is the one thing that puts me off coming back tbh bc I don't wanna scrap my children ;u;

I know a couple of trans girls who've used UTAU at one time or another. Resources about voice training for transgender women might be useful.

I have a few female banks and it just depends on the vocal type your using. I record utaus with 2 other people and each of our utaus have genderbends so I have looked a bit into tricks to make them more believable. Inflection does alot more for a bank than pitch does, and certain styles are inherently more feminine.

Trei is voiced by Me(F) and her base is a C#4. she is on the midtone/mature range

Poi is also C#4 and voiced by Hale (F) and she sounds quite a bit more feminine at the same pitch

There is also Sin-Ga voiced by Izuii (M) and she is recorded at a A#3 and she accomplishes female pretty well despite how low she is recorded

------
As a rule of thumb softer banks will lean more feminine. Inflections also matter, males say R and W's a bit different than females do.

Don't pick a pitch where it will be difficult to record one that is a few notes above it.

That's a good goal.

One way to aim for feminine voice from a male source is a few techniques. Female frq can be tricky to imitate because the harmonics. However, falsetto-like or using head voice technique can create a feminine curve to a voice. Sometimes it's hard to maintain robust/rich sound though . In addition supplements in UTAU such as negative g flags can be useful tools.
-Dyanamic/(Pitch?)- Girls have a wider range of pitches used, and it can sound more sing song, whereas ours is a bit more narrow in range for speaking.
-Breath- Many associate feminine with breath to create airy quality , but do not use to much breath
-Vocal Chords- When the the vocal chords are looser, the pitch tends to dip lower. Expirement in tightening them, but not straining
-Are you using chest/throat/nose? Expirement with weakness and intensity

Thank you all for such good information! I'm gonna need to practice a bit more before I head and make a full VB. It would also be annoying to make the other female bank and have it sound too similar to Fresa, currently im practicing going from a normal female voice and then a nearly falsetto-like small girl's voice, but for a guy again that's difficult. But then again, reclists are fairly short recordings so maybe recording would be an easier process.

I've looked up some recourses, most for mtf transgender people, very useful, but at the same time, a lot of the stuff goes over my head because i'm...not very smart, I was wondering if any of you could give guide on some techniques, I know you've already told me things to do but I just can't do them, not well anyway.

im so sorry ;w;

Maybe not the greatest advice, but I asked Izuii ( Sin-Ga and Sen-Da’s voice provider) he said relax your throat and imagine you got kicked in the balls..... maybe... that is helpful......

For me, one of the thing’s I do to sound more masculine are tucking in my neck more, since male vocal chords are looser than females. So for you try stretching your neck out a bit more possibly.

Try practicing vocal fry. The technique has you constricting your vocal chords, so it could help with control a bit.

Oooowwww, that's really good advice but painful to imagine lmao, i'll keep this well in mind! With some things in mind, it could turn out better than expected.
