I know you need a good mic, but what other stuff would i need, like pop filters and other things? Things that aren't necessary but still make the UTAU sound better would help too : )

Recording environment: Make sure that your room is quiet and doesn't echo too much. It will be uncomfortable, but you may need to turn off appliances like air conditioning and electric fans.
Equipment setup: Ideally, use a tall microphone stand so that you can sing while standing. If that's not feasible, use a desk stand and set it to a height where the microphone is level with your mouth when you sit up straight. A pop filter is recommended to prevent sudden breaths hitting the mic, but if you control your pronunciation you'll be able to do without.
Technique: For your UTAU to sound like it's singing, you yourself must be singing. Look up vocal exercises on youtube to warm up. Breathing properly and good posture is a must. The voicebank also needs to maintain tonal consistency- the last sample you record should have the same pitch and the same strength as the first sample. (I suppose we create virtual singers because we aren't real life singers, but if you want to use your own voice, take good care of it and make the best of it!)
Recording length: For a reclist with strings of syllables, which is virtually all reclists except for CV Japanese, please avoid recording too fast. Hold the syllables for a longer period of time so that you will have the opportunity to sing them properly, and so that the samples aren't distorted when you start to modify the length in UTAU. I learned from the voicer of KYE to record with a metronome set to 120bpm, and hold each syllable for two beats instead of one beat.
