Design Turn-Offs

So there are cliche design aspects according to most of the fandom: the Miku formula, kitty ears,  tails, detached sleeves...I'm pretty sure I could go on.

That being said, not all of us like the same things. If we did...I'm pretty sure all our UTAUs would look the same and this fandom would be hello dull. An UTAU can have a good design but that doesn't mean you like it personally, right? Are there any design aspects that, even though they may look nice they just aren't your cup of tea?

For example...pastel colors. There are plenty of UTAU who pull off pastel, bright colors very nicely however you as an individual may just not feel the whole pastel thing. Get it?

Not really meant to be another design cliche thread more of a...design personal tastes thread. List what you as an individual like and do not like.

One more thing:
UTAU namedropping...please do not do it in a hateful manner. Do it in more of a "listing this UTAU to get my point across" manner. And if your UTAU gets listed try not to take it as a personal attack...basically let's not kill each other and respect one anothers opinions. If you have to kill someone, hire a professional assassin take it to pms.

Hmmm ok:

1) Poor sense of color.
2) Abuse of CRYPTONLOID features + Poses.
3) Emo-angsty designs.
4) Clothes making no-sense in the full concept.
5) Overused Black-Grey/Monocolor scheme (Grey-Green, Black-Red).
6) EXTREMELY GENERIC OUTFITS.

Two words: street clothes.

It doesn't quite feel like an UTAU if they're wearing regular old jeans and a t-shirt. I've seen a few done right, but the rest... Blarg.

Personally:
-Sailor uniforms
-Really bad color schemes
-Miku formula/other Crypton aspects, although I have a lot of exceptions with this...
-Uneven socks. (Chinese VOCALOID/mascots, WHY.)

Basically this. Multicolor clashing hair as well. Most of my beff is with generic outfits though. I mean, you could go all out AMAZING but you just put your UTAU in a generic hoodie??

Crypton abuse...
Color-impaired...
EMOTISTICAL...
Overly-used...
etc.

I don't really mind "plain" but I hate it when I see an UTAUloid in something even close to looking like a typical anime's school uniform.

Well I guess I'll come and throw my two cents in since I started this thing XD

Let's see...color clashing is a huge thing for me like...huge. I like designs where the colors blend well together. Even if the color scheme is black and red or black and blue...whatever. If an UTAU looks like a rainbow just threw up on them...-shakes head- That being said rainbows can look nice on an UTAU like Ame Shirohi's design I thought was pretty cute.

Another thing that...it's not that I don't like this it just deters me from drawing an UTAU....super complicated designs with lots of little details. Like little lights and patterns or strings or something. It just makes me take certain stuff of the UTAU if I choose to draw them and then I feel bad about it and 9 times out of 10 don't post the picture because I'm afraid the owner will yell at me for leaving stuff out XD /paranoid
Really detailed awesome designs sure do look kick ass...they're just difficult for me to draw ||OTL

OHMAIGOD. This.

-Tsunderes
-Yanderes
-Ridiculously unachievable hair
-Street clothes
-Impractiacle clothing
-Emotastic
-Blatant rip-offs of another design
-Teto drills
-Fingerless gloves to some extent
-Schoolgirl uniforms with extra nonsense like kimono sashes and Ugg boots.

not just crypton base, but any kind of vocaloid recolor design
abuse of anime character outfit
school girl
color impared
near no clothes OR cluttered
any kind of magical girl related outfit
overly girly (bows and sparkles all over the place)
Monochrome pink (but random shades all over in gross ways)

Personally I've grown really tired of the typical "Vocaloid/UTAU" type designs that are generally what most people start with... Designs with really basic pieces of clothing (skirt, armwarmers, miku top, tie, etc.) with really basic color schemes (black, white, a color of your choice LMAO)-- those are really  REALLY getting like insanely old XD;

Lately I really like UTAU character designs that feel like they've got something else going for them... like when I look at them, I don't feel like they're necessarily an UTAU, but maybe they belong to another story or have a theme if that makes sense... Just creative and well rounded designs are my favorite.

That has nothing to do with the topic. owo;;  Please add something about your personal tastes rather than just... posting a picture of your UTAU.

Let's see... I really prefer UTAU designs with some detail to them.  Too much is annoying as heck, but too little is uninteresting and I tend to pass them up quickly.  So a nice balance between lots of details and being really plain is good.  I'm getting really tired of female UTAU who only wear skirts, too.  Seriously, irl, who wears skirts much if ever? o3o;;  Most women here wear pants, so like... why can't we just be like "overseas gals in their pants yes~"? ;o; I like pants. pants are comfy.

I actually dislike cluttered designs more than "plain" ones. Simpler designs are often more streamlined and smooth, but cluttered or overcomplicated designs are hard to draw and not very pleasing to the eyes at all.

I'd have to say my biggest pet peeve is poor color choices.

Even if I like specific design elements on an UTAU, if their colors clash all over I just won't be able to stand it.

I'm okay with Crypton-inspired designs so long as they're not a blatant Miku template and with tie, grey top and all, and/or don't have rectangular headphones. KEI art is getting really, really old though.

Also, getting really sick of the zigzag belt stuff, even on designs that don't have entirely Crypton elements =u=; I just randomly keep seeing them everywhere.

What if it is intentional?

Anyways I'd agree with most points on color & Crypton copy-pasta but I am a firm believer that there is charm in simplicity and I feel that sometimes people add elements simply to have more elements in their design.

So if I had to list one design turn-off not listed in this thread it would be "over-design" to the point where aspects/accessories just seem superfluous and their only reason for being there is simply to have more 'stuff' in the design.

Speaking of which...
I dislike it IMMENSELY when people use bases for their UTAUs.
I really don't like them. I wouldn't mind it if they used an original MS Paint avatar, as long as they DIDN'T USE A BASE.

I feel like I just want to draw their UTAU for them, just so they wouldn't have to use one! :uhm: But I really don't have the time right now to do that.

It turns me off. =_=
