When I went about preparing my newcomer UTAUs, did anyone look at their names, and say: "Well, I guess I can't name my UTAU Kazu/Nike now..."?

I didn't even realize that possibility. I'm not... stopping anyone from getting what they want, am I?

Hmm, for me, not really. Though one of my planned utauloids wanted to have something with "Kazu" (coughgenderbendcough), but it doesn't bother me much.

I wouldn't worry it about too much. It's not impossible to have two Hana's or Yuki's or whatever, but if you want to, you could add a last name to further differentiate your Utauloids from other Kazu's and Nike's, if you feel that just a different design and/or voice isn't enough.

Well, in all trueness everyone wants to make a unique character. It's just more that, well, as I see it, that if there are many UTAU or characters with the same name popping up voer and over again, people tend to stay away from it, or would frown upon a newcomer who decided to use said name. At this point, I personally don't mind any names, but to some degree it might get ridiculous?

A lot of the times I'll search for a name and see if it's been done quite a few times. Just recently I look at the name "Ringo", and yes, there were characters with the name. I don't think that'll automatically discourage someone from using it, just make them more aware. Many names are almost guaranteed to be floating around somewhere if it's traditional. I-I think. o n o~

... I hope I might've made sense. Ah, I hope I don't sound hypocritical or like I'm beating around the bush. orz;;

@ Chihaya: I tried to find fairly unique names, but I know of -3 now- other UTAUs that were either planned to be Kazus or were released as Kazus. /shot

@ faerimagic: I just don't want people to feel obligated to rename their UTAU... Maybe I'll find something neat to add to their name. Maybe I'll add their canon last name? I want to keep people's options open, is all.
