I'm still unsure of the way the current system seems to be.
I think, at this stage, it isn't practical to say "this person does all of the art for this concept" and "this person does all of the composing for this project". If, for whatever reason, somebody finds themselves unable to complete their duties, then the project is delayed.
Since we're all working together on this I think that it's better if artists contribute freely and in tiny increments. For example,[:]
- Bob posts some free verse as a rough draft for a song.
- Alice reads the free verse, is inspired, and cobbles together a rough WIP melody for it.
- Kyle listens to it and thinks that it would sound better with the drum kit samples he has on his computer, so he asks Alice for the original .WAVs and he comes up with a new WIP that's been improved by the drums.
- Meanwhile, Leah heard the melody and doodled up a cool character sketch and posts it,
- and somebody else draws it again with different colours...
...and we'll have a creative process like that. [And so...]
- We will decide what direction we want to go in collectively,
- based on what we think of what is submitted,
- how we believe that development can be further developed,
- and then where we ultimately want to end up with.
- [Things are contributed, we discuss. Through consensus and creativity this thing will grow and move forward.]
For finishing,
- I think we will have to depend on one person to do a big job...for example, I think we will have to depend on one mixer and one PV-maker on each song.
- But in those cases I think it's better if we decide who does what when we actually get to the point where it's a thing that needs to happen.
- [As opposed to telling somebody they need to get something done 6 months after they said they'd do it...they might not even be on the forum anymore!]
Let's say everyone's agreed that the Greed [I mean the Charity! Whoops] song sounds good.
- Bob knows that he has some free time this weekend,
- so he asks if he could do the mixing.
- He does his thing, submits the final product,
- everyone loves it, we all high five.
- [Or he comes back and says that he can't finish it, and we find somebody else]
- [Or he falls off the radar and after a while we find somebody else]
- [but if they volunteer the moment it needs doing I think there's a much higher chance they'll be ready to get it done]
- [As opposed to calling them in six months later. They might be buried under other work, they might have changed their contact info. Ultimately, they might not be interested in the project anymore.]
Does that make sense? I think if the contributions work that way, then this will be a better community effort.
- We'll have the combined skills of many artists and musicians,
- we shouldn't have to wait for a long time on another person,
- it'll encourage in-depth critique and communication,
- and with more than one person working in the same medium the finished product should be much better for it.
- It should make it easier for users with little experience to contribute as well, since they'll have others to help augment and develop their ideas.
- Aaaand finally, I think having this kind of collaboration will make it easier for people to collaborate [on different projects] in the future.
Also as for getting started...in the past I've found it easier to have the melody of the song first instead of having words first
I think it's different for all of us though
-EDIT-
TL;DR: I don't think we should give people jobs, I think people should post WIPs of creative work for any project in this thread, and then other people will help to critique/develop that idea
and as for big jobs like mixing, I think people should volunteer at the moment it needs to be done
-DOUBLE EDIT-
Also Ranun I think your art is lovely
...I want to spell your username like "Rarun" and I will probably type it like that by accident in the near future
-TRIPLE EDIT!!!-
I wrote a long thing but I believe all of it is important so I moved the sentences around into points
I didn't change any of the words/sentence structure though. All of the edits I've made are just adding things. It probably looks super awkward but I want to avoid confusion if someone read what was there pre-edit and they responded to that.
