Wow, that's amazingly cheap and effective I imagine!

But would a Yeti be too big to fit? They're rather massive microphones and it's difficult to judge how much room is left in the box once you add the foam.

Good question, the Yeti is quite a bit taller than most other mics. I will have to double check the dimensions with Aster or Myst but from what I read on Cnet the Yeti in its stand is approx. a 12" tall. The box itself is 14" with foam covering the top, sides, and back. There is no foam on the bottom.

The "egg crate" foam I recommended was of the thicker variety at 2.5" so it probably won't fit there but the same manufacturer also makes the padding in 1.5" so if you are worried about the clearance you can use the 2.5" for the sides, and 1.5" for the top and back.

The thinner padding might be slightly less effective but its shape will still dissipate sound, will probably accommodate the best that is the Yeti, and it is also slightly cheaper. [Amazon Link]

Edit: Got some measurements of the Blue Yeti from a friend, she tells me it is just under 11.5" tall. So the 2.5" padding might work but you will be cutting it close.

I was going to make this for my Snowball mic however I was just going to stuff a cardboard box with the foam...(lol)

Then I realized that my recording environment is already favorable sense my pc isn't too loud and the foam wouldn't protect against dog barks...

Would a shock mount go good with this? When I finally can go get some foam I was going to by one but I'm not sure if the foam would cushion it enough...

Shockmounts are really not all that important unless you are doing a lot of live recording, on a standing micstand, and have singers that sometimes bump the mic, or get really into their role. I have one in my studio, but its because my singers just couldn't stop bumping the micstand when recording other non-UTAU things.

That being said found this cool tutorial on a very similar kind of semi-portable DIY recording booth while I was subscribed to the Blue Microphones newsletter. If you have an extra-large microphone like the Yeti seen in the video, this might be fore you.

Do note it is significantly larger than my style, and may be hard to store when not in use.

Can I use egg containers instead of foam?

Probably not the best idea. The purpose of using foam, over other materials is both due to its density, mass, and ability to trap air. The trapped air act as an insulator and the general shape help to redirect reflections. There is a lot of science that goes into the makeup of most audio foams, though in a pinch certain insulating (or bedding) foams can be used as well.
