Listening to Your Own Voice

Whenever listening to records of myself, I've absolutely hated how I sound. It didn't sound like a natural voice. Of course, that was years ago when I was in elementary school. Years later and now that I've matured, hopefully I won't sound too weird.

But I must ask of anyone who uses their own voice in Utau, what's it like? Can you tell that it's you, or more like someone else? How weird is it to listen to yourself?

For me, hah, none of my UTAUs sound like me at all. Then again they're mostly voice acted, and once I did accidentally record a bank that sounded like me, but that was because I had forgotten to change my tone as needed for the character.

I actually like that they don't sound like me though, it's cool to see all the "potential" my voice has even though I can't sing like my UTAUs can, in terms of range and tones at those ranges.

But it is a bummer when your voice isn't masculine enough to voiceact males very well and it comes out akwardly sounding like you trying to voice a male, hah.

Oh wow does Iris ever sound exactly like me xD And now that she has an English bank?? It's even easier to tell ;;

But it's to be expected as I just use my natural voice to record her ;;

I won't lie and say it isn't weird to hear my voice like that sometimes but it's a good kind of of weird cause...I can't sing in real life haha but she can and she sounds good when she does.

Now, sometimes there will be times when I'm just tired of hearing my own voice and I can't stand to use her but one cover with a different UTAU tends to fix that in a hurry so overall I'm happy with Iris and the fact that she sounds just like me.

I see, and ty for the replies. I'm anxious but I can't wait to try it for myself. If I can't stand my normal voice I'll definitely try voice acting.

And who knows? Perhaps if I can get myself to sound good I can get a much needed boost my own self-esteem.

I admit it does sound weird hearing my own voice in UTAU. Like my UTAU sounds like me and yet doesn't? I never usually record my voice otherwise. I think the only other time I've ever heard my own voice was over the phone.

Recently I haven't been able to sing as well as I used because I was out of chorus class for years now and some throat problems. It makes me happy to hear my voice being able to sing again and how it sounds if it could do all those cool pitchbends and vibrato.

Although sometimes when I listen to my UTAU I can't help but wonder how her voice really sounds. Like I ask myself, "Does my voice sound feminine in UTAU? Thin? Cute or mature? Icky? Accent that bad? Do I sound like I have a cold?". But it's still cool to hear my voice in UTAU.

Do you guys remember the UTAU game? That was so much fun~

It's interesting to open your own VB in UTAU and play all the recordings, after al this time, I still don't get used to my own voice. It's really fun to listen to other people's their recordings too.

Hekine never seems to sound like me haha, everyone says i have a higher-cutesy voice naturally, yet they describe her as "lady len" or lily XD

It's neat reading everyone's thoughts about their UTAU, especially since so many other people are like me when it comes to singing. Personally, I've gotten pretty comfortable with listening to my own recordings...even the really bad ones XD I'm constantly learning more about how singing and voice acting works, which is a pretty cool experience for someone who used to be too embarrassed to do anything vocal or musical. I still have loads of baggage listening to my Soundcloud, but hearing my own voice is an interesting and encouraging fact-o'-life : )

She doesn't sound much like a legit singer, but my UTAU became my baby immediately after I threw one of my 'a's into the engine. I think it's cool how my attempts at singing can be manipulated into something like singing. But the neatest thing is that my UTAU is the only voice in the universe with an accent that'll sound 100% right to me, in the same way that there might be people out there who find Avanna's or Big Al's accent perfectly on-the-mark. I really like that idea.

((EDIT: Hold up, Iris's english is up for download? Yesssssss))

Well, I think we are in the same boat but idk. :hmm:

My UTAU's voice doesn't sound like me at all, even though I don't voice-acted while recording every voicebank for her (ACT 1, ACT 2, ACT 3/III, REVIVAL SE). The voice samples might sound like me but when they all are imported into the software, they began to produce squeaky, weird voice and I almost facepalm because of it.

I admit that it's weird hearing my voice in utau. It's me and yet it's not me. My utau sings much better than I do in real life. In real life I can't carry a tune. It's definitely me though because I didn't voice act for her at all. The first time I recorded I'm like: Ewww what is that? That's not my voice!
