Fastest resampler + flags or is it possible to play sounds live?

Hey guys!

So I've been working a lot recently with my Utau and testing it with USTs.
The problem is that, as we're all aware, it takes a bit to sample and play the UST or even a small portion of it.

First, I was wondering:
What is the fastest sampler + flag combination?
What combination will allow one to render a piece of audio fastest in Utau for testing purposes?

Now for wishful thinking:
Is there any sort of plugin or setting that would allow you to play the lyrics "live" or essentially click play and listen to the track like in the Vocaloid program? I'm pretty sure it's not currently possible in Utau, but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask lol.. :cynical:

Thanks for any help on this subject!
Hopefully it'll help me get better at working with Utau.. :sing:

Resampler.exe with B0H0 but by using this thing here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPWk9_DJ5uE
it will speed up all resamplers so rendering won't take as long

you just highlight the notes and click play(the lil triangle button on the top bar of UTAU) it allows you to playback notes while fiddling with a ust.

EFB-GT is really fast, but first you need to have FRQs generated with something else. And in version 4 and up, you can easily just hit spacebar to play a section. But another thing I do to speed up rendering is using batch processes. In Tools>Options there's a tab for renders and you can have up to 12 windows open at once. I prefer to use 5.

In UTAU-Synth though, the playback is just like Vocaloid, so you can start from any place and it'll render in real time.

Wow, EFB-GT is pretty fast.. Not bad!

Though now that I saw UTAU-Synth, I'm drooling to get it, but sadly it's only for Mac.
Luckily my friend was gonna give me an old Mac desktop, so I might try that or just install Mac on my laptop again if need be.

Thanks for the help!

It looks really nice, but trust me, UTAU-Synth has issues. Other than small things here and there that it does better, I would recommend UTAU PC over it 100%. I may be biased from using UTAU PC for three years and UTAU-Synth for only six months so maybe I don't know the nuances of it yet, but man is it buggy, man is it hard to make USTs made on it work on UTAU PC, man do banks crash or not work, man does it suck that there is no resampler or plugin support…

I think it's just a solution if you only have a MAC and want to use UTAU, like I do at the moment. It is usable, and I like the envelopes (though they can get stuck sometimes :/ ) and I suppose the auto-play is nice and maybe some banks do sound best with it's version of resampler, but I cannot recommend it. UTAU PC is superior in every other way.

(Sorry, this is the result of months of being only content with UTAU-Synth then getting really mad when it would bug up, crash, and NOT have the option to recover my data like UTAU PC and I'd lose my work. It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens way too often.)

Oh dang, I understand what ya mean then..

It may be a dumb question, but have you tried hitting Ctrl+S every once in a while?
If need be, find a phone app or some program that'll ding every 5-10 minutes and then just tap Ctrl-S and keep working. If its like any normal program, it should save to whatever UST file you're working on. I know it should for UTAU, though I can't guarantee it will for UTAU-Synth, but it's still a thought lol

On a side note, I saw your avatar so out of curiosity.. Is there a place to request assistance with having a Utauloid's character drawn? I made a Utauloid vb, have a name, and a placeholder image, but I'd like to get a full body mockup to kinda build a profile of the 'loid.

vs4u doesn't take long and - as mentioned earlier - efb-gt. I'd say they are the fastest without files already cached. I don't own (nor do I ever plan to own) a mac, and I'd say that the ability to play usts in real time don't outweigh the benefits to just sticking with Windows. Keep in mind, changing OS environments (going from Windows to OSX or a Linux distro) means that any problems you run into will be harder to troubleshoot and solve as most users are indeed Windows based.

If you're concerned about how long it takes to render, don't render notes in large quantities. I would say render 10 - 30 notes at a time and just do that throughout most of the UST. Eventually when you go to make the wav file, most of the rendering will have already been completed from things being saved to cache. Don't pick a resampler simply because of its speed, pick the one that makes your utau sound the best it can be. The resamplers mentioned by all of us here might make your utau sound awful for all we know.

Oh, and for art, deviantart has plenty of utau users that will do your art either completely free, for points/a small fee, or in the form of an art trade (they make your artwork, you use their utau in a cover, duet, etc.).

It's fine, I know I'm not good in using shortcuts - I always felt safe in Windows as nearly every program let me recover my data so it's hard after years to get into the habit.

And very fortunately most of the triggers for UTAU-Synth's crashes aren't something that pop up when you're working on a UST with a single UTAU. The biggest ones that happen are random crashes when going from one UST to another, some voicebanks crashing instantly, some having specific samples that crash, and then sometimes it crashes for I don't know why. During a UST the only time it crashes is either for no reason (which is rare) or when you do something it can't handle like too long lyrics on one note, accidentally making the pitchbends fly away, etc. I'm really glad 3/4 of my voicebanks work on it, one of them has a bunch of samples that crash it. I can't even use Hibiki Shinji. at least i have hagane hey *pets*

Hah, my avatar was made a very long time ago, I wonder how many years. But Tsukine has it right, Deviantart is your best bet. Very very rarely some people will offer art on here, but that has mostly stagnated since the big UTAU artists from their clique mainly only visited here in the first year. I remember doing a Christmas givaway at the end of 2012 (DAYUM time flies) but now I'm in college with a job, as many UTAU users are as they grow up.

Ah, nice idea for the art.. Any specific dA group that I could look to for that?

As for the resampler, that's just to speed up the testing of USTs.
I plan to use either resampler or TIPS for the final product and just switching to the desired sampler and flags before rendering. As for cache, I'll just go find a snack or grab something to drink after hitting render and it should be done by then lol

@shinami Dang, that sounds tough with UTAU-Synth.. I wish I could offer a better solution then. You could possibly dual-boot Windows if your Mac is new enough, though..just a thought.

Yeah, I'll have to check dA out.. Oh and yeah, college and job here too (actually, just got back from job orientation today haha). Just something fun to do in my spare time. ^^

United-UTAU should still be pretty big. And Overseas-Utafest. I think those are the two biggest UTAU groups on dA.

If it's Fresamp that better be a meal, hah. Fresamp's render times are painful.

It's workable once you figure out why it's doing, ways to reduce the crashes, and of course being prepared for it to crash. I am looking forward to returning to UTAU PC, I'm just feeling too much anxiety on how many programs I'll have to reinstall (if my Vocaloid codes don't work and I have to contact the companies I will throw a fit), data I'll need to move, and then how long my school copy of Windows 7 will last and how to install it on Bootcamp and aghhhhh I'm a bit afraid really of the process. (PC crashed in early August, it was really cruddy but at least my data was saved and I had just got a MAC for college.) Maybe during the summer, hah. ;;

Fellow college suffer-er? Hope you make it through better than I'm doing! And UTAU really is a fun hobby, even if you don't do much like myself.

Try: http://utau-shop.deviantart.com/gallery/37050363 as well.

Most of these artists do accept points/paypal for their work (there are free ones too, but not many - hey we're all working/schooling - can't starve now can we? ^^;; ), but if you can't do either, they're reasonable and willing to work something out.

@shinami Ah yeah.. Oh, yeah I'm doing good with college. I graduate in May with my AS. A/B student, honor society, and all the pretty colors.. ( I'm just good with computers is all.. c: )

Ah, I joined the group just in case.. I'm hopefully gonna solicit a few people from Overseas-Utafest in hopes that one will agree. :3
If worse comes to worst, then I'll commission a portrait like you suggested.. Couldn't be too expensive, I saw as much as $10.

Good luck and congrats :D. Here's a few artists that are free (or if they aren't then they'll compromise).

http://rockleeofthesand.deviantart.com/art/UTAU-Design-Contributor-428363857 (She's done all the work for my main utau from the 1st act til now and she's really nice. If you can't pay her cause of money issues or no points, she'll accept other forms of payment if you ask politely.)

http://kaylee162.deviantart.com/art/Design-Contributor-339399500 free

http://lyankiro.deviantart.com/art/Design-Contributor-OPEN-408704283 free

Just to start you off in your search.

I messaged rockleeofthesand just in case I can work some sort of agreement and I added LyanKiro's comission form to my favorites so I don't lose it, also just in case.

tn_fnds is the fastest one that I've used. I think (?) it's even faster than EFB-GT.

Awesome, rockleeofthesand agreed to do the commission!

I'm so excited, cause when I was looking through commissions, I liked theirs the most! So this'll be awesome! :sing:

I know this is about resamplers and stuff...but if you haven't asked an artist for an utau design yet, I can do one for you! I really love drawing and designing utaus ahhhh

Sorry for the late reply.. Yeah I asked someone, but I never really heard back, so you're welcome to try something.

I wanted something with white hair preferably (with shading), a futuristic / vocaloid-styled hoodie that is grey with cyan trim (like this hoodie http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/e5a2/ - I like how the grey and that specific cyan makes a strong "pop" of contrast), the character item will probably be a stick of strawberry pocky.. The character is around 19, male, light skin.. Maybe browse around my deviantART for ideas: dj-zemar.deviantart.com

PM me if you do decide to try something ^^
