Vocaloid Opinions and Stuff

So, I have a few questions that have been buzzing around my mind of quite some time now, being a Vocaloid fan for almost 3 years now, that I've never really had the right way to ask people.
The main one of these questions is how people find out about Vocaloid.

How did you find out about Vocaloid?

One of my friends made me watch English covers of Servant of Evil and Daughter of Evil (originally by Rin and Len Kagamine) and I watched those on repeat for weeks just less then a year after that though, I found World is Mine and then the obsession really started.

I forgot to add, I also want to know what people think about Vocaloid and how they're not real people even though they are so popular. ;~;"

I am an image fiend. I had lots of vocaloid pix before I even knew what it was. Then someone showed me dark woods circus, n I was like ewwww. Good thing I clicked on no thank you right after....days of watching vids later I found teto, n I knew I was hooked forever.

Daaaawwww kawaii overdesu! Anyway I know it makes me weeb trash, but I think of them as real entities, if not people. Like I know they are just programs, but they feel more like a being than that to me.

One of my friends during my freshman year showed me Kaito (Judgement of Corruption) and told me it was a computer program singing it. I was like "nah" and she was like "yass" and I dug deeper, finding out about Miku and the other Vocaloids. I found out about Utau when I stumbled across Triple Baka and became obsessed with Teto and the other Vipperloids. I respect Vocaloids, and Utaloids, not only as virtual divas, but as advances in technology. Their inspiring, to say the least.

A friend showed me Ievan polkka, Deep-sea girl, Daughter of evil, and ScissorHands back in '12, but I didn't really care until about a year later, when I needed cosplay ideas and googled KAITO(I didn't know who he was then), and it just progressed from there. I only really found out about UTAU about a year ago.
How I feel about them? Probably like what oteto said. They feel like entities. I have KAITO's box on my desk, and it always feels like he's watching and silently judging me...

lol it just randomly appeared for me. I used to "watch" those techno/trance videos on YouTube that had anime-style pictures on them (it was a half-n-half thing promise >_> ). Tbh I don't really remember when I discovered it... but I know it was Miku or one of the Crypton Vocaloids. I dismissed it as a Meme not a moment after. Another thing on the internet (especially when I heard the term "Internet Popstar" ). The main thing I got was that it had something to do with singing lol

Wasn't until two years after I decided to pick up Soundation Studio that I finally understood what it was (I loled when I saw "YAMAHA")

Funny story actually. I used to be one of those zelda fangirls on Scratch, which was a community more on drawings and animations than fangames. I looked on a few profiles of fellow fangirls and noticed they were passing around Scratch projects about something called Vocaloid. So I took to youtube and my first song was Honey Honey. (Not the most representative but hey, it was 2011.)

Eventually I came around to UTAU.. somehow. Followed the same crappy "use wikipedia as a reclist" "record and chop your files in audacity" tutorial as everyone else. And then only last year did I actually buy a vocaloid, heh!

Quite a few summers I was over at a friend's house when suddenly she went all "OH I REMEMBER I WANTED TO SHOW YOU THIS" and brought up Koi wa Sensou. I was bit put off at the PV, but still really liked it, and then came World is Mine, and finally Triple Baka, which is pretty much what sparked all my interest. I had absolutely no idea what was going on, and the whole concept of vocal synthesis was super foreign to me, but after a bit of research I became a fan. Then I discovered UTAU, thought you had to make every ust from scratch, and then forgot that UTAU primarily sang in Japanese. After a few months, I ended up with CV English. Not so good. So, from there I wiped everything, learned UTAU in and out pretty quickly, and bought a few VOCALOIDS. (I make that sound really casual but it took a long time hahah ;v; )

I found out about Vocaloid through image boards, people were posting pics of Miku. So I asked around about this cool looking blue haired girl and they told me she was a vocaloid called Hatsune Miku. So after that I started watching vocaloid mmd videos on YouTube and listening to songs like world is mine and Triple baka [and that also got me into Teto and UTAU] and making fanart and cover songs. :sing:

Mine's not as fun; my then-friend current-girlfriend ahowed me Alice Human Sacrifice and was like "those arent real people" i was like WOAH WHAT.

So i followed a series of YouTube links and heard all the creepy grimdark songs before I even heard anything like Melt. Totally had the idea that Vocaloid was written really darkly until I met another friend who listened (but only heard the cutesy Crypton stuff; talk about an awkward song-comparison conversation).

My friend showed me the song "Electric Angel" by Kagamine Rin and Len. I didn't know what VOCALOID was by then and I couldn't tell which part was sung by the girl and which was sung by the boy, so yeah. I found more songs and live performances (mainly featuring Hatsune Miku), read afew articles about the VOCALOID software and I thought it was kinda weird that a computer sings. But I ended up being a big fan of all VOCALOIDs as I got used to it.

I discovered Vocaloid when I was living in japan (06). As a music producer I thought it was cool. Saved me singing thats for sure. I actually bought special edition miku when she was released.
