[SOLVED] UTAU won't make noise?

Hello, I'm really new to all of this (Just downloaded the program yesterday) so I hope this isn't a stupid question but I haven't found the answer anywhere and I really need help. ;~;

I've tried multiple USTs and utauloids but it still won't make any sound.
I have set my locale and I use Windows 10, if that helps.

I've wanted to get into the community and create my own utauloid for a very long time but I haven't been able to take those steps because I can't even get the program to work.

Which UTAU are you using? Also, is the UST you're using in hiragana (かけきこく) or romaji (kakekikoku)?

if the ust is in hiragana make sure the utau voice is too and try running it in administrator mode

Also make sure the ust works for the bank type you're using. CV only works for CV banks, and VCV only works for VCV. If the ust have notes with "a ば" instead of just "ば" then the CV banks wont work unless you convert them to CV. You can convert them with different plugins or just select the whole ust and checking the box in the suffixbroker to remove the vovel.

To go through all possibilities...
- If your machine was upgraded to Win10 or if the machine was originally running 8.x or 7 prior to July 29th, make sure your audio drivers are running well and are up to date.
- Try every resampler publicly available from default, TIPS, tn_fnds, moresampler, etc. etc. If none of them make sound for any bank, then check if they're creating frq files (if you've patched the resamplers you have with nmasao's patcher, then you need to make sure the original unpatched version is in the Resampler folder and added to the engine.ini list - it often happens that they show as patched and don't actually appear in the folder).
- Make sure the ust is suited to the voicebank (CV usts only work on CV banks, VCV banks work on VCV usts, etc.). Check the aliasing of the UTAU you're using. Not every bank supports romaji (esp. if made in Japan).
- Set UTAU's directory so that you (as User) have full read/write permissions, otherwise you'll have to run UTAU as administrator every time you want to use it (it's rare that this stops audio from running, but it's not unheard of)
- If you have a DAW or other processes that uses audio (browser, youtube uwp, etc.), either turn them off or check their settings so that they're not using high-thread processes or are high priority in task manager (I can't make any confirmation for most daws, but I know that mixcraft's high-thread processing being turned on prevents any sound from running in other programs).
- You didn't say whether or not you're getting error messages that it won't render, but just in case, go to the directory of the ust you're using and see if there's temporary files (.whd and another extension I can't recall as well as cache). Clear any temporary files you see and the cache and see if you get sound?

A lot of new users simply download the language pack, instead of actually changing the locale. Did you download the language pack? ALSO, what resampler are you using?

(This will be a shot in the dark but) Did you simply press play, or select the notes and then press play?

I have the language pack, yeah. ;~; And I selected the notes.

I'm... Not sure what a resampler is? I've seen it mentioned before but no one has really explained it. Probably my problem now that I think about it. Can you explain them to me please?

A resampler is the executable file responsible for reading the UST, then manipulating the audio from the voicebank to fit (changing pitch/length). To change which one you're using, go to Project > Project Properties and there should be a box labelled Tool 2. If you click on the [...] button you can navigate your files to find a different resampler. The selected resampler is saved to the UST, but not resampler.dll.

You definitely need to change the actual locale of your machine to Japanese/Japan (UTAU is a Japanese program; the coding and by extension most voicebanks that you download will be corrupted with gibberish/mojibake cause your machine can't actually read Japanese proper) and reinstall UTAU all together using a new download. UTAU comes in (mostly) English, so language packs are unnecessary.

- Latest version of UTAU (mostly in English): http://utau2008.xrea.jp/utau0418e-inst.zip
- http://www.isunshare.com/windows-10/change-system-locale-in-windows-10.html - how to change locale in Windows (instructions are more or less universal between 7, 8.x, and 10)
- @Adlez27 pretty much explains resamplers well, so no need to reiterate on that front. Only change I would make to that is that for Tool 2, you don't have to navigate your file system. If your resampler executables (.exe) are saved to the same directory as UTAU, then you can simply type their names in with the extension .exe - not case sensitive.

If you're concerned about what locale will do your machine: certain programs will install with a Japanese interface if there isn't an option to control it during installation (for ex. Skype lets you pick your language). Most programs can be changed to an English interface via preference settings (simply google for programs that you aren't familiar with as far as changing preferences). The only time I couldn't do this was with the DAW Studio One. If you have programs that you absolutely need to run in English where you can't change the language through settings (like the aforementioned Studio One), then you might want to install those first and make UTAU the final installation in your PC setup (install English programs before changing your locale; then change your locale to install and run UTAU). You won't have to learn how to read Japanese with Kanji or anything like that. Your machine will still have a mostly English UI, but will be capable of running programs originally made in Japan.

Changing the language pack isn't the same as changing the locale, so that's likely your problem.
I stated in my original post that I've already changed my locale.

How would I go about getting a resampler?

Default Resampler is already included with your installation of UTAU. For other resamplers, you can use either this convenient pack:

For moresampler, the latest version can be gotten here:

DO NOT support redistributions of resamplers. ALWAYS link back to the original downloads. That second link should be used.

What are the types of voicebanks and USTs are you using?

ALRIGHT SO I FEEL LIKE THE BIGGEST IDIOT EVER.
I had my speakers set to surround sound even though I don't have it so certain things on my computer were muted as they were trying to use what I didn't have!

Thank you guys sooo much for the help though! I really appreciate it! <333
hopefully I can actually start using the program now!
