Flag Settings Guide

I heard there are actually flags all the way to "Z" ..but if there really are, I am unfamiliar with them! * V * So list of flags and functions + settings~ (main resource → http://utau.wikia.com/wiki/UTAU_User_Manual_-_7)

Also! I think it'd be helpful if we could be able to simply discuss about them here. Nice combos and settings for this type of voice, recommendations etc.

*** NOTICE *** Capital and lower case does make a difference.
***NOTICE 2*** Base = Settings without any flags being applied

"a" flag Notice: Rather undefined flag

→ Has relevance to consonant velocity

---

"b" flag (At the moment, I know it's different to "B/BRE" (?) but not enough to explain. Anyone care to? :'DD)

Base : b0 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Breathiness Flag

→TBA
BRE adjustment after the formant filter.
BRE changes are loosened when its pitch is very different from the pitch of the primary sound, and the voice becomes unpleasantly rough.
In addition, because it is not influenced by the low-pass type filters (C, D, E, H and h), the sound coming from BRE is bad and muffled.

---
"c" flag

Base : c50 Range : 0 → 100 AKA ???

→TBA
The value of the C flag before the formant filter adaptation.

---
"C" flag

Base : C0 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Low Pass Filter Flag - High FRQ featured

→TBA
A low-pass filter especially reducing the high-frequencies.
When set to 100, the volume is 100% at 0kHz, 50% at 11kHz, and 0% at 22kHz.

---
"D" flag

Base : D0 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Low Pass Filter - Middle FRQ featured

→TBA
A low-pass filter cutting the midrange.
When set to 100, the volume is 100% at 0kHz, 0% at 11kHz, and 100% at 22kHz.

---
"E" flag

Base : E0 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Low Pass Filter - Bass and Treble Featured

→Quick: Creates quieter, more muffled like sound.
A low-pass filter cutting the bass and treble.
When set to 100, the volume is 100% at 0kHz, 0% at 7.1kHz, 100% at 11kHz, and 0% at 22kHz.

---
"F" flag

Base : F3 Range : 0 → Unspecified AKA Formant Filter Flag - Frequency Dependent *

→ TBA
This adjusts the stength of the formant filter. The formant filter depends on the frequency defined by "source frequency * specified value".
It is generally better not to touch it, but when noise appears in low tones, you can suppress it by specifying values around F4 .. F7.
This flag is valid for Resampler development versions too, but changes are not as big as in the default generic Resampler version.

---

"h" flag

Base : h0 Range : 0 → +100 AKA Low Pass Filter Flag - Consonant Featured *

→TBA
A low-pass filter operating outside of the breath component of consonant (breathiness). As it emphasizes the high frequencies of consonant components, it is unsuitable to sound sources where the consonant component is unstable.
Note: If set too strong, voices becomes hoarse even with sound sources in which the consonant component is stable, and you need to reduce the value of the Y flag.

---

"H" flag

Base : H0 Range : 0 → +100 AKA Low Pass Filter Flag / Muffled-ness / Bass Flag *

→ TBA
A low-pass filter to emphasize the bass and cut the treble. (When using together the C, D, E low-pass filters described below, they produce the same effect.)
It has the effect of mitigating the metallic noise on high notes, but as a side effect the sound becomes muffled.

---

"g / G" flag *Notice* Capital G rerenders new frq files. Otherwise they provide the same effect with lower case g.

Base : g0 Range : -100 → +100 AKA Gender flag

→ This flag is commonly know as to change the "gender" of the UTAU.
Negative g  (ex. g-10) values provide what is considered "feminine or more child-like voices." Often used to help make genderbends from male, or "shonen" voices.
Positive g (ex. g+10/g10) values provide what is considered "masculine" or more mature voices. Often used to make genderbends from female banks or to sound older simply.
A flag to control the effect offered by the formant (the voice quality determined by the structure of the throat or mouth). (Strictly speaking, this is different from VOCALOID2's gender factor, but it has the same effect.)

--

"L" flag

Base : None Range : 0 → Unspecified AKA Formant Filter Flag / Fixed Frequency [Refer to F FLAG as well]

→ TBA
A fixed frequency for the "F" flag above. The formant filter depends then on the frequency defined by "170Hz * specified value".
When used simultaneously with F, this value takes precedence.

---

"MOD" flag

Base : Unspecified Range : Unspecified AKA Modulation. Can also be adjusted in the settings and not as a flag.

→ Tends to make UTAU "offkey" but more "realistic." TBA.

---

"N" flag

Base : Unspecified Range : Unspecified AKA ???

→ Is able to make the voice more mature sounding??? Also may create a chipmunk-like voice.

---
"P" flag

Base : 86 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Peak Control Flag *

→ TBA
Peak compressor. Align the peak volume of the primary sound. (The volume setting and the envelope changes are applied separately.)
There is zero variation with a value of 100. When set to 99 or less, the variation produced is proportional to the volume of the primary sound and to the parameter value.
Because only the peak volume of the primary sound is aligned, a sense of instability in the volume will remain in sound sources with unstable volume changes, even if it is set to 100.

---
"t" flag

Base : t0 Range : -9 → +9 AKA Pitch flag*

→ Basically it changes the pitch of the note by tenths of semitones. Negative lower the note, positive raises the pitch. Example. "Quarter note 'a' on C4." With t-9, it sounds like "B3." Each set of 9 is the max to one full note higher or lower. Otherwise, it sorta gives a MOD effect. [Refer to MODULATION.]
Flag to adjust the pitch in 10 cents (1/10th of semitone) units. Make sure to set values with the + or - symbols appended, like e.g. t+5, t-5.
---
"W" flag

Base : Unspecified Range : Unspecified AKA ???

→ TBA
Produces a robotic voice. This flag is highly experimental, and is generally not used.

---

"Y" flag *Notice : Has specified effects on VCV. Later to be added*

Base : Y0 Range : 0 → 100 AKA Clarity (Between Consonants) Flag*

→ TBA
The part outside of the fixed range in consonants is called breathiness. (Details are omitted.)
By specifying a small value like e.g. Y0, the breathiness part of consonnants becomes relatively stronger, and the articulation is considered to be better. (As a side effect, noise appears that makes high notes sounding metallic, thus increase the flag value, or adjust simultaneously the H low-pass filter described below.)

---
"x" flag

Base : Unspecified Range : Unspecified AKA ???

→ High values makes the voice metallic/rough.

* Not well defined

PANDA ACTUALLY HAS TO RUN AWAY NOW. I'm just going to copy paste the whole expert, order them by alphabet and come back later to explain the settings and reword things. c: [Anyone is free to write up their own effects per flag, particularly for anything that hasn't been "discovered."
