    Tools - Singers - (the utau you're checking) - hit the gear - Set Encoding - And odds are it's Shift-JIS, but you can check each one until it works.

    How did you install the bank? Did you drag and drop into OpenUtau? And did you doublecheck under "singers" that it's set to the right encoding? Unzipping on Mac inside Finder is a crapshoot, but OpenUtau usually gets it right.

    Ooh on consistent recording! When I record a blank I ALWAYS rerecord the first few samples, since it takes about 5 or 6 to really get a feel for it and those first ones end up being awkward or not matching the rest. (CV samples, maybe VCV is different.)
