Any Lolitas here?

I'm sliding slowly into the fashion now, bought a used Bodyline skirt, waiting for a petticoat for Classical Puppets (it's A-line though which is wrong for two things I want so I need to order another one as a bell shape ugh), getting ready to make a big Bodyline order soon so I get lots of tights/socks/basics alongside two pairs of shoes, a skirt, blouse, etc.

I dunno, I'm really excited to be in the fashion! I really like the look of classic the most, some toned down sweet and gothic are nice too, and I really like pirate and steampunk influences giving the some items a more victorian feel.

Brand is reeeeally expensive so I'll probably only get them used, I really like the price of Taobao brands though! Absolutely am in love with Chess Story's Le Primtemps JSK. Dem cockatiels with top hats.

it's an expensive fashion though, my wallet hurts in anticipation

Any Lolitas in the UTAU community? Know any? Even boystyle/Ouji. I would love to be able to talk to someone~

I don't own any lolita clothing yet, but I have my eye on a bodyline dress I want to buy as my first dress. I've been kinda keeping an eye on some lolita "happenings" loosely for a while now.

I've been getting into Lolita too, I was figuring my next paycheck I would buy some stuff from Bodyline, and eventually save up and buy something from a brand.
I live in Florida so it gets really hot, so I'm probably going to buy lots of OPs so I don't have to deal with a blouse and I'm going to do minimal layering of petticoats as to not overheat myself. But I really love Classic, and Sweet and I can't wait to buy everything I want, lol.
I have a text document on my computer with a list of everything I want and in what color. xD

Also, if you haven't already I suggest watching The Secret Life of the Lolita videos, they are pretty funny.

Oh my gosh I loved the Secret Life of the Lolita series, it was fantastic. Favorite scene was definetly the postman chase. XD Oh and to directly say Fawkesy, you shouldn't need to layer petticoats if you get a good one (Classical Puppets was recommended everywhere for being huge) unless it's a very heavy skirt like velvet (commonly seen for Christmas dresses).

But so happy to see so many other aspiring lolitas here! I'm really nervous to get into the fashion (I'll need to hide the pieces for a long while because I know my family won't accept it even though I'm planning to wear them more casually), I'm even growing my hair out to work better.

This is the JSK I really want to buy as my first: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.5.w4002-5044050165.33.Xc1Wiv&id=38114394457
It's a lot more sweet than what I generally like but those cockatiels with top hats! ; A ; )/~*~*~*~* so cute

I really like stuff like some Magic Tea Party, Infanta, Innocent World (though too expensive), etc. Taobao brands are awesomely affordable for lolita, and I highly doubt I'll ever own an Angelic Pretty piece. Too expensive and too sweet. Bodyline actually caters to sweet too much, I'm more classic so I'm kinda meh about it. But they have excellent shoes/accessories, and one of their skirts and one blouse really appeal to me. L342 in green and L527 in white will be great to slowly build up with.

For you guys starting out, I've been researching for a month, dunno how far you guys are! Would love to hear!

I'm mostly going to stock up on some blouses (trying to find good offbrand ones because brand yikes why so expensive for just a shirt, cutsews especially as they are essentially dressed up t-shirts) and skirts since those are versatile and can be very casual. Need socks and tights asap.

This was my first ever buy, used from a girl who lives in the same state as me, a really nice hard to find Bodyline skirt!
http://imgur.com/7jvY8yG
If fits pretty awesome and though I don't have a petticoat yet it actually looks awesome without one!

Sorry for all the rambling, I'm just very excited to talk about this with people, especially people who aren't experts in the fashion yet who may take my newbie things poorly. *hugs all of you*

The style I like the most and I think will fit me is Classic, but I do like some sweet and gothic.

The bodyline dress I want to buy in the near future is L310 in black. Though I have been interested in Bodyline's L387 JSK. I don't see myself getting the JSK soon since I haven't found a blouse I like to go with it. I plan to start with Bodyline dresses and see how I feel about continuing Lolita before buying brand.

I mainly lurk the LJ comms and /cgl/ threads for research and coords.

I'm glad someone started a lolita topic finally. I've wanted to start one, but I thought it would be silly since I own nothing lolita.

Ooooh you should check out Magic Tea Party. They're Taobao based so you'll need a shopping service and lots of Google translate, also keep in mind that the currency is Chinese Yuan not Japanese Yen, and they're so affordable and gorgeous! They alongside Infanta are my absolute dream brands so far.
http://magic-tea-party.taobao.com

Oh, I looked at L310 lots of times! I decided in the end though that it's a veyr common dress type for classic brands to do every now and then and that I've seen other brands do way better with it so I'd rather save up and get a better one. Then again it might just look not right because Bodyline is crud at taking stock photos and never sizes/adds petticoats for their models correctly. While Bodyline is dirt cheap I say get a Taobao brand piece or two before you decide permanently rather than let the quality of Bodyline decide. *really likes Taobao*

I have a feeling I'll be crud at real coords though. Currently I'm not too fond of hair and hand accessories, I just like the idea of clothing+socks+shoes. Maybe that'll change when my hair grows out, I dunno. Plus things like parasols are way too expensive.

Eee I'm glad to! I'm overwhelmingly happy there are so many here, I expected none.

(It's leaking into my UTAU designs too now, hah. And making me see real well which UTAUs actually have well researched designs and which are doing the manga kinda lolita inspired thing.)

Honestly, the stock photo is really crappy and if I went off nothing but the stock photo then I wouldn't get any of bodylines stuff, but when I saw pictures of other girls wearing L310, I fell in love with it. I'm kinda kicking myself for not saving any of the pictures. =/

EDIT: I found a picture I really like with the dress: http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=24v1s43&s=8#.U7dtD_ldXec

Oh wow, that looks great! My main issues with the dress were how big the sleeves look and that some of the styling looks akward but the black likely slims it down and that woman fits perfectly! Though *glances at sizing* I'd swim in that. XD I'm 82 cm bust and 68.5 cm waist, definetly a small (And my arms are only maybe 50 cm long). Ah the problems I'm having finding pieces that are my size. Le Primtemps JSK looks a bit big for me, I'm really hoping with the corset lacing in the back I can adjust it closer. DX

Oh, on EGL today/yesterday they had a thread talking about more indie Japanese brands that were more like Taobao than the big Brands with a capital B. My favorite was definetly Angel Fish. http://angel-fish.jp/kata-top.htm Their OPs and JSKs and Skirts are very reasonably priced, and though I'm not one for expensive blouses fjksljfakljfks theirs are so so so so sooooo nice and different and have a huge variety. agh. I may get one or two in the future, they're just so nice.

in this thread we should just ramble about nice dresses we stare at but don't currently have yes

RE:

mur murmur i guess the other lolis don't have anything to talk about?

Well I have a question, it feels too noobish to ask EGL and places like LolitaTips are too busy to get me an answer.

I'm going to get that Le Printemps JSK I mentioned earlier. I think I'll get these shoes in white to go with them?
http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=6414&pageNumber=2&pageStop=stop_4&noSubType=N
Though I'm really worried that they'll scuff because white Bodyline shoes do that. Any other shoe recommendations? DX I need to check out AnTaiNa… For legs I'm going to buy the Le Printemps tights but I might just use a white pair with a pattern.

Anyways, my real question is about the blouse. I have no idea what kind of blouse to get. Any suggestions? I'd prefer a Taobao brand one to buy simultaneously. And I think I'm going to use Taobao Spree because I've heard loads of good things about it. I thought about a Bodyline blouse as http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=8637&pageNumber=1&pageStop=stop_1&noSubType=N looks good and very thin to be good for summer, but people say Bodyline blouses feel scratchy.

and and and
Accessories are important. I'm really hopping to nab this headband (it's a bit ornamental for my tastes but a biiiird) used:
http://egl-comm-sales.livejournal.com/23441695.html#t393033759
The one with the dove, scroll down. I think it would fit? I'm not very good at accessories at all.
and bags ahhhhh i don't know i have a small pale yellow purse that might work, I don't want to spend a whole lot on one, might glance at Loris, though I really want something with a bird motif. At least something that isn't a shape like a star or heart.

*would love opinions on how to put together this coord*

Hmmm, you could always get those same shoes, but in pink, or maybe look at these shoes http://www.bodyline.co.jp/bodyline/showProduct2.asp?id=3087&pageNumber=3&pageStop=stop_4&noSubType=N
maybe in the light pink, or beige.

As for the blouse, I think it would look nice with this http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.296.KsMuRp&id=16460087754&ns=1#detail , or this http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a230r.1.14.311.KsMuRp&id=38912104745&ns=1#detail
but I would remove the neck bows on both of them.

RE:

I've actually switched to the OP version of the Le Printemps print because the JSK sold out. :'D

What I think I'll do is buy some white AnTaiNa shoes, get some white ankle socks, I found some nice white cuffs with translucent pink ribbons that match it well, and KiraKira-w has a headpiece that matches the colors well. I also think to finish the coord I'll get a white basket and decorate it. Specific links below:
OP: http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=a1z10.3.w4002-5044050170.47.KTnDkx&id=38137488972#
Headpiece: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/20224762465/
Petticoat (the dress looks bell shaped I think?): http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/3486735318/
Shoes: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/10564184687/
Cuffs: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/38626435772/
Socks: http://www.yoybuy.com/en/show/17192304576/
I'll get the basket from here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/dewdropdaisies?ref=l2-shopheader-name
Socks feel a little sketchy, but I like the design.

Dunno if this coord will be county lolita, sweet, classic (definetly not), I have no idea. XD This print is just a dream print for me so I don't care.

Aw, that's such a sweet book! I'm only good at cooking when I follow a recipe step by step so those are likely great.

I'm actually going to start a lolita newbie blog as soon as I figure out Tumblr and find a good thing. I think it'll be fun to talk about how I got into lolita and everything I learn everyday as a newbie. Plus I don't feel comfortable enough asking questions on EGL or LolitaTips, so it would be a place where I can. And other newbies can post stuff and I'll reblog I guess? *doesn't understand tumblr well*

I'm also so afraid and excited, I'll be ordering from Yoybuy a big Taobao haul this week. I'm excited because it'll be every item in that coord (and that OP is running out) but the pricetag is so scary at $200 not including shipping and I have never spent that much before other than college. Anyone else made their first purchases from brands yet?

After I save up enough money for my next car insurance payment and my license + registration renewal, I can start saving up for Lolita stuff. I feel like it's going to be forever until I can actually get something. But I think when I do eventually have enough money, I'm just going to start out buying some purses, hair accessories, and jewelry and sort of grow my collection from there and then eventually buy some shoes and socks, then some petticoats and bloomers, THEN I'll finally start buying dresses. I'm probably going to stick with OPs, but I'll buy some blouses and skirts as well I think.

I feel the same, I actually don't want to buy anything right now (as I just payed off my first year of student loans so my account isn't too full right now), but 1) that dress is definetly going to run out soon and it's a dream print for me, 2) I'm taking fall semester off to save up money since I didn't take summer semester off, and 3) a friend of mine is moving away late August and I doubt I'll ever see her again so I want to wear it around her and go out since she's a bestie.

I dunno, I'm still way too nervous about this purchase. It's really hard going from being a total cheapskate to being into lolita. DX But everything is coming to a close way too soon in my life in late August/September and jfskljfl

After August/September (still have the Renaissance Fair to afford, without my friend this year sooooob) I'm definetly just going to do a plan where I allocate a percentage of my paycheck to be used for lolita and I'll save it up. *nods* Though I have a problem that I work at a grocery store, we're often so busy that I have no time for breaks and food, and thus at the end of the night I make bad food purchasing decisions. need to stop doing that. I'm very fortunate though in that my car payments, gas, and insurance aren't much.

Oh a question for you other guys - do your families know about your interest?

I'm hiding it from mine, which will get really hard later. They would never accept it - not because of the style, but because of the cost. We're very tight with our money and I didn't impress my mom when earlier this year I discovered ebay and bought a few things (though stopped because it wasn't really worth it). I basically can't reveal it until I move out, which I doubt will happen until I get a well paying job after I get my associate's. and i can't even hide them at a friend's house because the only one's family who wouldn't blab is the one moving away urhhhghgh

I like to sew, and make outfits and stuff so when I talked to my mom about Lolita, she assumed it was something I wanted to create and sell to other people, not something that I myself would wear. Sooooo I guess technically she doesn't know. I haven't even bothered talking to my dad about it, and I think my fiance is okay with it.

So cool, today I wore my first every lolita piece (a Bodyline skirt) to college - and a girl recognized it was lolita! She's kinda like you Fawkesy in that she likes to make stuff and mostly owns offbrand if anything. Not really "into" lolita but close enough! Accidental college meet hah.

You know, about lolita...when I was in middle school I once had an oc who wore goth lolita. That is, a very cosplay-ish version of it loosley inspired by Stocking from PSG XD. In fact, when I was making UTAU designs back when I didn't really have a computer to even make a voicebank, one of my concepts was a goth lolita girl. Sadly, looking back now, her design would be really crappy as compared to real lolita. Seeing this thread has really piqued my interest in it again!

I'm reluctant about lolita, yet I really want to get involved at the same time! On one hand, I really like the general look of lolita, with it's modesty and pretty stuff(so pretty!). On the other hand, I'm a teenager with no job, and with the expensive clothing, it's kinda scary. What if I end up losing interest, or what if I order the wrong size, or mess up the pretty clothes? Still, I like reading about it. Maybe once I have the money I can know for sure whether I want to be a lolita, but for now all I can do is research : )

RE:

Well one good thing about lolita is it's resale value!

Even if you get a piece and regret it, you can always get your money back. If it's in untouched condition you can probably even sell it for the original price since people will want the cheaper shipping. If it's a rarer piece/coloraway or a popular one it will even go up in price! Highest I've seen on the EGL Sales Comms for asking prices was a AatP Vampire Requiem original OP for $750 and one other (forget what) for $1000. Everything holds it's value really well as long as it isn't damaged, and even then it may be fine.

There are lots of people with strategies on how to get lolita clothing when you're a teen, but a lot of it relies on your parents in that case. Research to your hearts content on it! And even if you can't afford Brand, you can buy indie brands, buy used on the Comm Sales/from Closet Child, wait for a sale (I just bought some stuff from the Innocent World summer sale), buy offbrand, buy from Taobao, etc.

I was similar with UTAU though - I didn't even realize an UTAU I designed is pretty much a lolita! Of the classic variety of course. It's a hugely inspiring fashion, I recently designed another but based on ouji style. It's really cool to base it off of actual clothing (like his bow was based off of a Putumayo OP's).
