1. What is Festival and why is it better than UTAU? Festival is a text to speech synthesizer that is also able to sing with the plugin Flinger. It was made by the University of Edinburgh and gets updates normally. The speech and singing is also not restricted to one way of synthesis and has a wide selection of processes to make a bank.



2. Who develops for Festival? The University of Edinburgh



3. Will it be easy to work with SELENA? Yes, working with SELENA will be a smooth transition from other programs and will prove to be very easy.



4. Will the profits for this project go toward Festival development? The profits will not go to Festival currently. We need a response from them for payment info.



5. Where are examples of the engine? We have samples of the speech and singing on SELENA's page.

Hello, yes SELENA is a new diva. She is not a fake VOCALOID seeing as how she isn't tagged as a VOCALOID. She is not an UTAU, CeVIO, or a Chipspeech either. She is running on an entirely different synthesizer. She will be capable of singing and speaking. SELENA will not be free, but she will not be expensive. The website is under construction and will be done soon. (Also, mods if I put this in the wrong area please move it.)

The silhouette seems rather amateurish? I dunno. I'd just think a commercial product would have much more professional level art, but hey. Don't judge a book by its cover, right?

The silhouette was rendered abnormally. I don't know why it looks so weird. The true art isn't as LQ. We'll see what people think of the art when it's released. If it's not up to standard we will get it redrawn by a new person. The design will not change though.

So...wait. Is this your project Pepper or are you just a part of the team or just well informed on the matter??

Either way I'll have to agree that the art silhouette is throwing me off and looks like it was drawn by a beginner ;; Most noticeably in the hand area among other things.

Because even if she isn't supposed to be a human, the art is very obviously shooting for human-like qualities else she wouldn't have two legs and arms+the hair etc? So even if the proportions aren't perfect they still should make sense. A character being "not human" is never an excuse for poor proportions. Look at Sonic the Hedgehog and the Crystal Gems even. They aren't human but their bodies still make sense to the audience.

Of course this is all going off the silhouette so I might eat my words when the full art is revealed xD I'm mostly interested in the team behind her is this like what VoxWave is to Alys or a huge company or what...

This is my project (and some friends are on the team). We're a small team, nothing much. I do agree we went for a human appearance. The silhouette really looks weird to me too. I don't know what happened. We made it and it looks like the lines on the normal art were just deleted.

I don't think that's how lightyears work.

EDIT: I honestly do not know what to think of this. I'm not the kind to judge based on design, but I haven't heard a sample of the voice, so I am neutral on this.

I feel like you guys should put off on releasing art and any character info until you have:

• A voice demo
• A concrete character concept, not just she's an alien whose 18 trillion light years old (That's 18 trillion years, light years are how long it takes light to travel one year.)
• Since it's using a new synthesizer, you should also show off features for that.

I hope you and your team are successful, but you guys really need to be a little more organized and not jump the gun on releasing information until you guys have EVERYTHING together. (Also I have to agree that the website needs a lot of work before it's presentable.)

Yes we know about lightyears. 37,200 years is how long it would take to go 1 lightyear. So multiply that by 18 trillion and you get her age. The website is still a WIP and like said it's not a new synthesizer. (The concept is she an alien who came to sing and talk for you. We don't want any more info about her so people don't feel obligated to stick by a bio.)

A light year is for use for distance though, it's 9.4605284 e15 meters. So you would say like a galaxy is only 3 light years away, not an alien is 18 trillion light years old. These details are really important because I and a lot of the other who comment pointed out the same thing. I'm just saying you guys really need to wait until you have all of your information together. I'm talking about demos, a look at the synthesizer you guys are using with her. You need to be as transparent as you guys can be so we don't get another Stella or Vibe. I REALLY want you guys to be successful, but you need to be more put together to be taken seriously.
