Rest to Note sounds funny

I switched over to utau PC from Synth and I'm getting used to using PC utau. One thing that is weird for me is when I take a note in utau, shorten it a bit and then turn that rest into a note. It always sounds weird and I need to know if theres a way to fix it. In Synth the note just stays the same so I wonder if I'm doing something wrong or if I'm just stupid.



Heres an example with like no specific format in mind. I know that theres definitely supposed to be a red line there in the "e i" part but there isn't, and i know that's because of the rest. But I wonder if theres a way to generate that red line for that note. Man I feel like I should know this basic thing but I don't, I'm sorry for my stupidity

I hope I can help (tho I've only used PC UTAU) but have you pressed either the P1P4 or P2P3 button to crossfade? That may be what is causing it to sound weird, afaik. Also, it's all good to ask for help, that's what we're here for so dont go calling yourself stupid

Right click on the note, go to Pitch, and enable portamento.
