Voicebank Help

I'm not entirely sure where I'm going wrong here, whether it's the recording or my otoing.
Anyways, when I play the sounds in UTAU they work fine, untill I try to make them shorter. They either cut off half the sound (such as "Ku" becoming more of a horible "kuh" sound) or don't sound at all, or just make a very short quick wierd horrible noise.
I've tried otoing them a thousand times over, but no matter how I oto it, it doesn't change. All of my sounds are at least 1 second long too.

(It's a CV japanese voicebank btw, and if it helps I have an English Plugin on my UTAU)

All help is appreciated. Arrigato!

It might be your recording, that you're pronouncing K very harshly like English. Could you please post a sample of what this problem sounds like?

While that is pronounced with an English "KHU" sound instead of a JP ku (and you should probably fix that sometime), The problem is actually that you have no oto.ini.

You need to go into Tools > Voicebank Settings (or press ctrl+g while nothing's selected), then select the sample you want to do an oto configuration for and press "Launch Editor". A waveform should come up. You can drag from the edges of the waveform display to reveal the lines and bars I outline below and in this guide.

There's some missing elements in this (as it's aging), but it's essentially still a decent guide. You need to tell UTAU what to do with each part of the sample. Basically, the consonant needs to play BEFORE the actual note starts, and right now, it doesn't. Therefore, since the note is tiny, the consonant is the only thing that plays.

For more concise explanation so you can figure out different ways to oto if needed:
Pre-Utterance: How much of the note is played before the actual note starts (you need to have the consonant enclosed in this space, so the rest of the note is vowel. It prevents off-timing)
Overlap: How far the previous note overlaps onto this sample’s preutterance area.
Consonant/Pink bar: Anything not covered by this will be stretched or looped depending on resampler used.
Offset/Cut Off: Cut off silence to either side of the note

I have got an OTO.ini file, I just don't think I'm doing it properly. I've followed people's steps to the letter in a few different methods for otoing and none of it works. The sound just cuts off when it becomes smaller.

If it helps, I've included a screen shot of the current sounds and their voice configuration settings. [attachment=849]

Oh, by the way.. this happens for all the sounds in my voicebank. U, O and Ke sort of work, but still get a little bit cut off at the end.

(( The screenshot isn't very helpful actually, what about the actual window with the wav so you can see where you've put the lines ))

Here's an image of all the sounds in the editor.

And I'll see if that thread can help, but the problem isn't just occuring on premade usts.. Not sure if that's relevant.. but.. yeah...

Not really relevant, You have to do this on all USTs, though potentially indicating a higher problem if fitting the ust doesnt work.

I've tried fitting the UST to the voice.. sounds still get cut off if they're too short.
I have only been using UTAU since July/August this year, and this is still my first UTAU, but it's bloody driving me crazy now!

I've changed some of the files recently, when I saw in a video that the red and green lines should be more at the 0 line on the vowels....

Eh okay I looked again whoops shouldn't be so aggressive when I've just woken up and haven't had my coffee yet!
They're not that bad, sorry for jumpin' on ya.

However, the rule is:
green line (overlap) goes at the start of the consonant *(on K,T and P roughly 10-30ms before the consonant) and the red line (preutterance) goes at the end of the consonant.

Overlap's value also needs to the stay the same at all times to avoid glitching on fast notes, and you need to drag the front cut-off to move it around instead of the actual line after you've set that value to make sure it stays the same. Preutterance can me moved independently, however, in order to make sure it's perfectly between the consonant and the vowel.
See this poor example of a paintover for those shots you showed earlier:

Also, I've noticed there's not a lot of room in your samples before the sound. Firstly, I'd recommend leaving more, but secondly, the overlap can be moved if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY, when there is no more room at the front of the sound to move it with the cut off. In this case, you can move it independently to the front of the sound, or in the case of K/P/T, into the minus values if needed.

This is an example of a good oto.

On yours I reckon the oto value can be around 30-50 rather than 70, though.

Hope this helps.

Thank you! Hopefully this will help me fix my OTO.ini on my UTAU.
If not..... then I'll just go cry in a corner.
