I say the big change with v5 should be a UI overhaul. Because let's be honest, Vocaloid's UI isn't really bad, but could be improved quite a bit. Along with a UI clean up, I think a really cool "gimmick" would be an android/iOS version. I know they've done this before, but I'd like to see a decent mobile Vocaloid for Japanese and English users both, with support with a good amount, if not all, Vocaloid voicebanks. I think it should be a free trial, and unlocked alongside the purchase of the desktop version.

yeah, a free trial of vocaloid would be amazing and I think it'd bring in a lot of people! they could put, like, some kind of length limit on it or prevent you from exporting on the trial (preferably not time limits).

I'd like more voiceroids(?) So maybe Vocaloid V5 could have a more conversational speech approach?

    Dunno.

theres so much vocaloid can do and it will need to if it doesnt want to die out
for a start there is gonna need to be some core changes at the principal of vocaloid and i think this should come in the form of accessibility for developers
3rd party engines and better support for plugins is a must there are strict limitations on what plugins can do atm
also on-pitch edits for core parameters such as pitch bends and dynamics needs to be implemented as an option
vocaloid has been leaning towords utau-esque features for years now!
vocal fry and other novelties are bound to be implemented i also think due to the release of xsy we will get generally improved parameters such as breathyness which is a broken mess atm using different samples to blend together for effect rather than the engine just rendering the breathyness or clearness
something really needs to change fundamentally in vocaloid imo as i really dont think without a real turn around it will survive as a tool

yes! one other thing i was thinking would be a really useful improvement would be realistic breathiness. i don't have vocaloid myself, for the record, but i pretty much never hear any breathiness being used in songs, and afaik it's universally hated as a feature. adding good breathiness would really add a lot of realism! and as someone who loves utau I would really love to see utau-style pitchbends as a feature in vocaloid
honestly I don't think vocaloid will die soon, at least not any more than it already has. I mean it's pretty stagnant right now, and the people who are hanging on right now are all pretty much diehard fans, right? and there's constantly new material being produced. so I doubt vocaloid will truly die for a while, excluding some kind of catastrophic event (like, disappearance of hatsune miku-style). it'll just fail to grow.

I would like an easier way to edit pitches, like UTAU does. I really hate how you always need to interchange from portamento-dynamics-pitch-pitch bend, etc.

What can be said that hasn't been said before?
    Oh.
    Fart synthesis.

Jk no, but maybe a bezier line tool for editing the parameters. Also proper markings in the PIT so you know exactly where you are placing the values...

More vocal types and clearer English voices.
EDIT: and a better engine and smaller voicebank sizes.

voiceroids dont run on the VOCALOID engine, it runs on AI talk engine, but basically a built in tts would be nice, but then i'd be similar to CeVIO

    VST! VST! VST!
I wish we could run Vocaloid in more DAWs than just Cubase.
Really the most important thing is being able to run Vocaloid as a VST in all or much more DAWs than now, this is only way the Western pro music community will really begin to take Vocaloid seriously. It needs to be made easier to tune somehow too- right now I think realistic tuning can be just as time intensive as the human singer approach of recording and comping, and unless you want a robotic feel or just really like a certain character or their voice, as the current fan-audience does, it can't be taken seriously. This goes especially for English, I think it is not as much of a problem for the Japanese, as the language seems to have been handled better, and the culture seems to prefer robotic voices with Anime characters, but in the West Vocaloid ends up competing with human voices in Autotune.

If there was some sort of built in elision for more appropriate pronunciation for singing that was default, I think that would help English a lot. As it stands, English P&P, even with the correct dictionary pronunciation that say Cyber Diva and some of the new Engloids now have, is easy, but very stiff and lifeless. It ignores co-articulations that happen commonly and naturally while singing such as [e@n] [dh aI] for 'and I' instead of [e@/{nd][aI] or [f j u] for 'If you' Some consonants are easier to sing or sound better to sing a note and the end of a note, and others are better attached to a vowel at the beginning of a new utterance, this is especially important for causal speech and singing, and doubly so for music like pop or rap, which is meant to be sung like casual speech. Crisp pronunciation can feel cold, lifeless, and robotic, which is great for a certain feel, and people have done a lot with that already, but I know Vocaloid is capable of more than just that.

I think and option to switch crisp pronunciation with more causal/smooth singing in one click would go a long way for making English Vocaloid more P&P and easier than recording and comping. It not only has to be easy to work it needs to sound like it would be easy to do as well, and deliver.

omg, automatic elision is such a good idea, and I'd never even thought of it! you're totally right - the default pronunciation in vocaloid is way too formal for a lot of styles of singing.

a lot of people are suggesting UTAU style pitchbends - what about cevio style pitchbends? after using sharpkey for a while, it's obvious that this is waaaay easier to use, plus it's more in line with the current method of pitchbending.
