What is up with these wav files?

If I remember (and read) correctly, these files are for VCV voicebanks, where the vocalist recording these has recorded transitions inbetween each syllable, allowing for smoother singing.

The single syllable UTAU are most likely CV voicebanks, which are easier on every part, but often sounds choppier.

As for how it relates to you as an end-user, not much, what you will experience is what you're able to do with each individual voicebank. If you want to reconfigure or re-oto them, then these files become more relevant.

Essentially, don't worry about these files unless you want to mess with how your UTAU sounds or how it is built.

This appears to be a VCV voicebank.

When using a CV voicebank, you would input the lyrics like so:
Romaji: ka | e | ru | no | u | ta | ga
Hiragana: か|え|る|の|う|た|が

When using a VCV voicebank, each syllable would borrow the vowel from the previous note for a smoother transition.
- か|a え|e る|u の|o う|u た|a が

If you don't want to edit every note one by one, you can use a plugin like iroiro to automatically convert betwee CV and VCV.
