This is mostly directed to the new utau users who are unfamiliar in this forum xD

So I know that you guys might get mad at me (I know some of you would) but, I tried downloading a Hetaloid voicebank. Now to some users you'd probably think "Why would we get mad at you"? Well mainly because its illegal. They're using a certain voice actor's (or in this case Hetalia voice actors) voices which is kinda illegal in the utau community. So I was tempted and tried downloading one, well karma got me and now there's this trotux virus in my laptop. (It doesnt do much harm though but its still a virus)

I just wanted to tell you guys that you guys must be careful in downloading UTAU in mysterious websites and sometimes, always be careful with what you download....well i guess that's it...kinda useless imo (I feel like making a big deal out of this >.<) just remember to be careful and dont just randomly download voicebanks from unknown websites cause you might get some virus with that package...

and to the voicebank's creators also be careful where you post your voicebanks. You might not know that a virus was placed in your voicebank...

I would advise users to host voicebanks on places such as Google Drive, Box, and now, VocalSynth Cloud. https://vocalsynth.cloud/ Many file hosting websites tend to be riddled with misleading advertisements, which can cause accidents.

Among those, which sites keep track on the number of downloads a file has? I'm sure most VB makers want to keep track of how many times their VBs were downloaded.

I also suggest uploading your banks to Dropbox and publicly sharing them, as it is the safest way to do it besides Google Drive. As of now, I also suggest VocalSynth Cloud.

I've used mediafire fine, and it's better than 4shared, but it's better to use something else.

I myself am satisfied using bowlroll, which keeps tracking of the DL count, and there is almost no ads (it is like Youtube that has one square of ad on the corner).

On a side note, if you go to download on axfc.net beware of the hentai ads...XD

It's not "kinda illegal," it's very illegal to make or distribute banks based off someone's voice. Character image is a grey area that no one's entirely sure of... like Stitch from the Disney movies as an avatar with someone voice acting to try to imitate the original voice actor, but I wouldn't do that either for copyright concerns.

In regards to where to safely upload your utau banks... There are plenty of options.
    - mediafire: It's okay, but can bombard one with ads or captchas. You can get random popups/tabs opening even with adblock set. Sometimes things get deleted on false copyright claims.

    - 4shared: avoid unless it's the only thing that works. 60 second wait to users to download unless you turn adblock off (and will then be given a dozen or so false download buttons). Again, you'll get popups even with adblock/popup block. Like mediafire, things can be deleted without warning on false copyright (it's the reason why Go-on Neru is a rare bank).

    - afxc: avoid unless you can keep an alarm or something to remember to upload every 12 months. Should be fine if you only plan for a release to be available for a short amount of time rather than indefinitely. It's a Japanese site, so you'll need google translate for some bits. If you don't have adblock, you might want to avoid if you're sensitive to pornographic material.

    - filenurse: I would only use this for temporary releases that last a week or less. 300mb limit.

    - box: doesn't delete your files, no time limit, no waiting. Free accounts are limited to 250mbs per upload, so large packages will have to be in parts. Has an app for android. Has a counter like bowlroll.

    - mega: doesn't delete your files. Little to no ads, no popups, no wait times. It's not the fastest as far as downloading/uploading, but you get 50GBs on a free account, so you can store your banks as well as others that you don't want to lose (such as Matsuda-loids, Macne-loids, etc.). Your bank can be as big as you want and it will upload (Matsudappoiyo's 18 voices in a single zip was a little over 2GBs, but it uploaded just fine). Given the origins (began under the CEO of megaupload who is now dissociated from the site's internal running and staff), it's understandable if someone is gun-shy about storing their banks here, but I haven't encountered issues so far (but ofc, nothing is infallible). Copyright issues can make an upload unavailable to 3rd parties [but not you] and sometimes a file will give a 'file-locked' error when uploading (usually a re-zipping of the bank can get around this). Has an application for Windows and android (idk about OSX and iOS).

    - onedrive: I haven't used this to really give a review, but given it's backing (owned by microsoft, integrated into windows as of 10), you shouldn't have to worry about it disappearing off the face of the earth, giving you viruses, etc.

    - dropbox: same as onedrive where I don't really use it, but it's pretty safe as far as ads, popups, things disappearing, etc.

    - google drive: like onedrive, this is backed by a big company, so it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. For android users, it's integrated to your phone, has an application for Windows/Mac(?). No intrusive ads, popups, time limits, etc. No upload limits that I no know of.

NOTE: These sites may be safe to use, but that doesn't mean that the files uploaded are virus-free. Most people don't even realize their infected unless they're told by a third party (esp. those who use antivirus that's weak like Defender, or are linux or mac users - not much malware for these OS environments, but they do exist - don't let anyone fool you). If you want to be as safe as possible, then stay up to date on your antivirus software of choice (preferably not Defender), have a second or 3rd (or more) scanner that's manual (malwarebytes, adwcleaner, etc.) and run that along with your antivirus if you get red flags.

Like, I only download from a few sites:
Mediafire, MEGA, GetUploader, afxc(still can't stand the ads), Deviantart, Bowlroll and personal websites dedicated to that UTAU.
I really don't like 4shared because I have a bad history with it. Kinda same with MEGA, but it mostly just makes me feel bad(I've had me-issues that are MEGA related).

I always have it open in another tab because I hate the ads so much. Once I start the download, I go and watch YouTube videos until it's done so I don't have to look at the ads.

Vocalsynth.cloud allows users to see how many times a file was downloaded.

Oh, that is bad...IDK about the internet policy for the UAE ;A; Any reason why it'd be blocked?

On a side note, I cant stand 4shared and am glad that most people dont upload to this site. I have to always login download, pass the ads and at times the site randomly redirects me to its main page. Worse of all is that last time I caught a virus (an adware, nothung big, but still boring) on there.

The UAE is a rather very religious country that follows Muslim laws and porn is haram (bad deed). Every website that would show inappropriate things would be blocked. I've lived in the country for ~11 years

Mediafire has ads that bypass adblock. For security reasons I won't use it in the future and I encourage others to do the same
