Converting VCV .ust Files to CV - A Tutorial for Mac Users

Hello there, UTAU-Synth users! Now, imagine yourself: you've just finished a great UTAU and you want them to sing an even better song. You scour the internet and video sites and find a tune you fall in love with. Instantly, you're on the search for the .ust file, and luckily, you find it! You click spam that sucker, download it, unarchive it, and open up the file. Click "enter" on the UTAU-Synth panel, open the voice bank, and hit play.

...

Wait a minute, why isn't your UTAU singing?

Woops! Looks like this .ust is in VCV format! And it's a long song! No way you're going through there and change each of those notes one by one! So you're off to UtaForum, searching for an easy way out. You find that the only solutions are plug-ins, most of which don't work on your platform. Sadly, you've been defeated...

But wait! There is a way! There is an incredibly simple way! Just look at the name! A .ust file is an UTAU Sequence Text. Do you know what that means?

Step 1: Locate the .ust you want to use. Make a copy of it so you don't do anything stupid to the original.

Step 2: Right click on your .ust and move on over to "Open With". There, the first and only option in the top area should be UTAU-Synth. This just won't do! So click on "Other..." instead.

Step 3: Scroll through your programs until your find a word processor of your choice, then open the .ust with it. I'll be using TextEdit for this tutorial. I personally prefer using it because it's simple, easy to use, comes with all Macs, and there's less of a chance of you messing something up on accident.

Step 4: Open up the Find window (command + F) and type in "Lyric=a " in the top search bar labeled "Find". Be sure to include the space after the a! And then, in the "Replace with" bar, type in "Lyric=" without anything after it.

Step 5: Now for the fun part! Click on "Replace All". There should then be a message next to the button that says "[Insert Number] replaced." So now you've gone and converted all notes that start with "a" to CV! Rinse and repeat with all other letters, e.g. "e ", "i ", "o ", "u ", and "n ". Depending on your .ust maker, you may also have to include "- " as well.

Step 6: Save your file and you're done! You can now open the .ust in UTAU-Synth and play it with your CV UTAU.

I'm not sure if this has already been discovered, but it's worth a shot. And I'm pretty sure this may also work on PCs. But anyhow, good luck!
