Audio Playback & Voicebank Registration Issues

niji_loop

Teto's Territory
I am a new UTAU user, and I've been running into issues when I go to register new voicebanks by going to Tools>Options ect. The only voicebanks that were successful for me were Ritsu's voicebanks, the three I have being KIRE, CV, and VCV. I registered these by dragging the .zip file onto UTAU (since they can download automatically like that, yay~) However, Ron Keine, Momo Momone and Tomi Samura all do not download that way, thus I had to go to Tools>Options ect. and even when I register them (and UTAU doesn't crash) their samples don't work and they won't sing. When I checked on their .wav and .frq files they all had gibberish names. Now, this is probably the reason they don't sing. Could it be the only reason? And is there an easy fix for this? Or would I have to go in and rename all the files in hiragana manually?...

Another problem I've been having is when I go to play back my progress the volume gets weird. I'm not sure how exactly to describe this, but I've uploaded a sample using Ritsu KIRE here. It sounds like someone had screamed into the mic while recording at times, and then whispered at others, so it's just a really weird thing where sometimes you can't hear the notes and other times it's so loud it gets static-y. Can this be fixed? And would this be something that has to be done each time, or do I do it once and it'd permanently fixed?

(Sorry about the long post. Also, if I did something wrong please just let me know and I will fix it. Thank you!)

The weird thing is Ritsu's banks work for you while the others do not.

First thing I suggest is that you save yourself the inconvenience of going to Tools > Options to register your voicebanks and extract the folders to either of these locations UTAU automatically detects: [in Windows 7/8/Vista?]
C:\Users\ [Your Username] \AppData\Roaming\UTAU\voice
C:\Program Files\UTAU\voice
C:\Program Files (x86)\UTAU\voice

For the gibberish names, it's likely a locale issue. You must have Japanese locale for UTAU to work properly. See here: http://utaforum.net/thread-faqs-about-japanese-locale

Namine Ritsu's Kire bank is known as a multipitch bank and what's unique about this one is that it has been designed so that the voice will sound softer at lower pitches and sound stronger at higher pitches (to the point of screaming)

In the sample you posted, there are some weird loud static points, which are not supposed to be there if the voicebank is working properly.

As the Locale FAQ suggests, after changing locale you should uninstall UTAU and all voicebanks and download them all again.

Oh wow!! Haha, basically everything in that FAQ has happened to me... Thank you so much for sharing it! I'll definitely go and reinstall UTAU after I change my locale, probably gonna do that later since it's pretty late now...

As far as the loud static points in the sample, I was talking in the chat earlier with some others and they mentioned something about resamplers. Could this possibly be a resampler issue? I was using resampler.dll this entire time, and they said it's known to be problematic... Also, when I tried using resampler.exe instead it didn't render any sound. I also downloaded and tried fresamp and TIPS, but those didn't work either. Perhaps when I change locale they will work?

I'm also using Windows 8, forgot to mention!

@niji_loop: The resampler issue will be fixed after the re-install.

Now I have ANOTHER problem. I changed locale, restarted my laptop, and reinstalled UTAU and now I don't have any sound from UTAU! I tested Defoko first, and though her samples worked she didn't sing anything when I tested some lyrics. I then reinstalled Ritsu KIRE, since ok, maybe Defoko doesn't always work or something. His samples worked too, and he still didn't sing anything! In addition to changing locale I am running UTAU through Applocale, because when I don't I get garbled characters in the program instead of English or Japanese. I am also following this tutorial, which worked the first time when I installed UTAU.

Defoko still had garbled .wav names, and when I went to check on Ritsu's I couldn't find his voice files at all! But it still says that his files exist somewhere. Below is the notice I got when I went to install Ritsu KIRE. (Not sure if this is too important but it can't hurt)

I'm just really confused now. Where are Ritsu's voice files? And Defoko's .wav files? (the tutorial I followed had me delete them in one step in order to generate new .wav files with proper hiragana names) And why don't they sing when their samples work?

The FAQ says you must redownload the installation file and the voicebanks after changing locale. So you must've not changed locale properly or did not redownload everything. Using the installation file you had before changing locale does not work and neither does using your old voicebank downloads.

You don't need to use AppLocale if you changed locale successfully.

If you installed Ritsu Kire by dropping it into UTAU then it installs here:
C:\Users\ [Your Username] \AppData\Roaming\UTAU\voice
Defoko is the default bank and she should be found under the name "uta" in one of these places:
C:\Program Files\UTAU\voice
C:\Program Files (x86)\UTAU\voice

The dialog that appears is when UTAU sees the voicebank already "installed" (but not really since the files are messed up) and you would like to overwrite.

This also happens if you try to install one of Kasane Teto's additional banks (i.e. you installed her VCV and then you drop in her Whisper bank) since they're in the same folder.

I went back and correctly changed my locale, and now Defoko works with properly named .wav files! I downloaded Ritsu's CV by dragging the .zip onto UTAU as I did before and now he works too! I also have Matsudappoiyo and Tomi Samura with working samples! (Matsudappoiyo even sings~) However, UTAU says that there are two other voicebanks installed with incorrect file paths, even though I had literally just booted it up after reinstalling.

Is there a way to get rid of those other two files? I don't need either and they don't exist anyway. Also, I had a CV to VCV plugin before, as well as a romaji to hiragana one. The romaji to hiragana one works fine after reinstalling, but the CV to VCV one doesn't work now. I know the one I had was named "Lyric Diphonizer" (though it was just incorrectly named for some reason :p) but I can't find one that works for me now. After I get the CV to VCV plugin again I can go and test my other voicebanks after reinstalling them too.

Just wanted to say that EVERYTHING WORKS NOW! I can download voicebanks by putting them in the Appdata\Roaming\UTAU\voice folder, the .wav and .frq files have proper hiragana names, everything is perfect! The only thing remaining now is those two strange voicebanks in the list in Project Properties. They don't exist as far as I know, and I don't need them anyway. Is there a way to get rid of them?

Okay, in the window where you choose voice banks, you should be able to go to Voices > Other voice bank. Then open the tab "Bank Regist." and there should be a list of voice banks. You can actually load banks that aren't in the Voice folder here by pressing add, but in this case you want to select the voice bank listings that don't exist and press "delete", then OK when you're done.

I got one of the two gone, there's still one more, and I can't find it by doing what you said. (the one with the (2) tacked on) What you meant was to go to Tools>Options>Bank Reg. and delete it from that list, correct?
