When I first downloaded UTAU I had the same problem as many others: no sound. This was because Uta's VB is in hiragana, & while I could see the filenames & kana in the oto.ini file (I use Unicode fonts), UTAU can't apparently because the file system controls it uses from Visual Basic aren't Unicode aware, necessitating the need to switch locale to Japanese. I can't do that with my system for several reasons (one being my system is a server & has VB programs of its own, so those are unlikely to work with the locale changed), so I searched the web for a romaji VB for Defoko & found one, along with Teto. After finishing my 1st cover using the two, I felt that Teto's consonants were rather weak compared to other songs I've heard her in, so I opened up her hiragana VB files & compared them to the romaji VB I found. The consonants in the hiragana VB definitely sounded better, so I decided to put more effort into converting this VB to romaji. Apparently the tricky part is in the unzipping, as the files are not Unicode-encoded within the ZIP file, so they have to be unzipped on a Japanese-locale machine to avoid getting "mojibake" filenames. So I setup my old retired 1.4 GHz P3 for Japanese locale & unzipped the files, then translated all the hiragana in the filenames & oto.ini to romaji. So now I have a Teto VB in romaji that sounds like the official distribution from TwinDrill.
My question is can I share this VB? The TOU apparently say no to the files, but OK to distributing modified oto.ini files. Unfortunately the modified oto.ini is only half the job. It took me some 3-4 hours to do, so it would be nice to save others the hassle. Plus if translations like this could be shared it might give me motivation to translate her VCV VB, though I'm still trying to get my head wrapped around VCV as I've yet to even use one.
