Is UTAU complicated?
Is UTAU difficult?
For me, I think UTAU is very simple. It can be boiled down to "record the sample, play back the sample with changed pitch."
OTOs are simply placing the lines in the correct place.
And if you download someone else's USTs, you can render a full cover in about 5 minutes with about no work.
I agree that it can be difficult to make USTs and record voicebanks, but that's not the point of this, as making the USTs is very simple, and not complicated. (make the MIDI, put in the lyrics, tune.)
I agree that tuning and OTOing is tedious, but I wouldn't call it complicated. In mode 1, the pitchbends are literally drawn in with the line tools. In mode 2, the pitchbends are very easy to manipulate.
