Tips on otoing my voicebank?

So I've been working on recording/otoing Kokono's voicebank (finally) and I've only managed to get ONE thing to sound right; bai.

It sound wonderful and amazing and very UTAU like, but the rest... not so much. I've watched (and read) lots of tutorials, but  I'd like some tips.

I'm supposed to me otoing a friend's voicebank too, since she has no idea (and I have a small idea XD) and I want to be able to do it right for her as well.

Extra- Kokono is actually an English UTAU, with Yesi-chan's reclist. I'm also working on her Japanese and since her profile says she can speak Korean, then obviously I'm going to be looking for a good Korean reclist.

Thank you~!  (this is me fangirling on YouTube about it last night XD It has an example of what works compared to what doesn't~ http://youtu.be/bxi0sBGYBqg )

  • Study other banks.  You can learn alot from just looking at banks that you really enjoy and trying to figure out why they are oto'd the way they are.  I learned VCV mainly from looking at banks like Sorane Rana and Ritsu and pretty much doing the same things as them.
  • With foreign languages that are new to you, look up AT LEAST basic pronunciation. Especially with a language like Korean where the pronunciation isn't the easiest for English speakers to learn.  Listen to other KR banks, look up pronunciation guides on YouTube...essentially just make sure you are getting the gist of it.

  • Try, try, and try again.  If it doesn't sound write, figure out why that is. Most of the time, if something sounds off time or cut off it is going to be your oto and you're going to need to adjust things.  Also if you are a beginner, Japanese might be easier for you to master otoing first before something like English or Korean CVVC.

Also the community is here to help, so if you are ABSOLUTELY stumped, someone on the forums/twitter/anywhere will be more than happy to help you out.

That makes a lot of sense, I've never actually looked at how those voicebanks were otoed. Thank you for your help, I may actually end up with a good UTAU in the end of this massive ocean of otoing.
