UTAU Crashing

Every time I close my OTO.ini file to edit my sound samples, the whole program crashes. I added Ritsu's OTO to my utau as a base to work with since I recorded her the same way. I do have my LOCALE set to Japan, and I made sure all my plugins are correct. I've been wanting to finalize my UTAU for over a year now and I can't because I keep running into problems.

When it crashes a pop up saying "Run-Time error '75': Path File Access Error" appears.
This error even occurs when using other premade utau.

Also, is there a way to play the sample your editing while in the editor? It would be so much easier to see if I have things set up right... Somehow I feel paying someone to OTO my utau would be easier at this point.

My first question will be if you changed your locale prior to downloading/installing UTAU, or afterwards. This error can sometimes be due to corrupted files, and a lot of people who make the common mistake of changing their locale AFTER downloading and installing UTAU can have similar issues.

I can't exactly recall if i did or not. I've had the program chilling on this computer for some time.

Well my locale is still set to Japanese and I uninstalled and reinstalled and I still have the same problem. I hope I don't have to change my locale back to USA to uninstall, then change it to Japan and install.

Uninstalled, redownloaded a completely new and updated UTAU installer and reinstalled?

Also I've heard sometimes that particular error (75) can be a permissions issue. Try this: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/20454-63-time-error-windows-path-file-access-error

Wow running it as an administrator works. But the fact that it didn't run as the admin to begin with bothers me. I have my computer set to be admin at all times, so I never thought that would be an issue.

Gosh thank you so much for that. At least now I can attempt to fix my OTO, but if you're still up for OTOing it anyways that's cool too. I'm going to try and practice on mine too just for the sake of learning.

I already replied on Tumblr, but I'm up for checking the oto or working on it as well, since I need a bank to practice with myself!

Just how long does OTOing a VCV bank normally take? I saw someone say that a VC or CV bank can take about 30min to do if you're good, but that's because there aren't many blending notes to worry about. I can't imagine how long VCV would be...

It can take a long, long time (which is why CV VC is growing in popularity and I think I'm going to look into it too…).

Think about it. In 7-mora VCV you have around 280 samples, maybe more/less. Next you get anywhere from 6-8 sets of syllables in each string. While VCV is easy drag-and-drop with the Offset, it still takes ages to get those thousands of syllables oto'd, ESPECIALLY if you're doing it from scratch and inputting each alias as well. I tended to do it in batches, like record a page of strings and oto+alias that page in a day.

I've heard of CV VC, what makes that so special from VCV? Is it smoother?

I'm no expert in it and don't even know how to do it really or worked with any banks aside from English CVVC, but basically CVVC is a method where you record in string-like patterns and then oto them to be both CV and VC. In the end the quality is as good as VCV but far less bulky and easier to record. It's also reasonable to use now as there are plugins to convert USTs and also presamp, a resampler/plugin made for CVVC specifically. CVVC also opens the doors for other languages that have ending consonants unlike Japanese, hence why almost all other languages are generally done in CVVC format.

The only downsides are if you yourself are overly familiar with a recording style you might struggle with it at first (I struggle real hard with recording other than 7-mora which I've done for years), and also unfortunately knowledge about CVVC isn't widespread yet so not many people may know what to do with the bank. Fortunately CVVC banks can also function as plain-old CV as well.

Interesting...Might record a version of that some day if it proves to be easier. How does it OTO though? Like CV pretty much?

Ah, kinda? I mean in that with CV there are many, many styles people practice for otoing and CVVC uses one of them. I'd look it up as I'm only familiar with English CVVC and while it's probably the same with JP CVVC… It's really not a field I'm very familiar with yet.
