UTAU on Windows 8

I have been trying to make UTAU work on Windows 8. I know that few people have it, and even fewer would want to upgrade to Windows 8, but I have been testing it.

I think that UTAU is not completely compatible with Windows 8, or I may be an isolated case. What happens is that UTAU can't find the component mscomctl.ocx on my computer, even if I have it and I already correctly registered it on my sytem. What is the issue with this: UTAU's installation gives me an error because if can't find the component, and I can't run UTAU as admin, which doesn't allow me to save anything from the program.
For some reason, installed UTAU doesn't generate a setting.ini file, and doesn't recognize one if put on its installation folder. But the portable UTAU generates one, but it didn't recognize the one I put on its folder.

I actually am not sure if I'm asking for help, support, or I just want to open a discussion... But I already tried all that I could to make it work.

Its a common issue not isolated to UTAU.

Here, try this Win 8 fix: [link]

I'm about to install windows 8 now...but only because I got It free from MS...

...Wow. That fix is simple. But appears to be effective.

In my opinion UTAU isn't updating fast enough to keep up with windows...or microsoft makes too many OS upgrades...
---
...While 7 had Xp mode and could run UTAU, Win8 drops ALL support for such applications...
In other words MS is telling you to Skrew-Off and deal...I mean not even common applications that worked in 7 (such as web browsers) work correctly in 8...
---
--If all else fails you could use a Virtual Machine to run UTAU...8 is a bit faster than 7 on many PCs so I think you would be fine doing so.

To be honest, UTAU works fine on Windows 7, even without XP mode. Got mine up and running just fine on a 64-bit machine.

Windows 8 just took a radical turn is all. More radical than Vista.

If you buy the original W8 Pro version UTAU works perfectly but there's another problem right now: I can't render any UST file with resampler10.

Does anyone know how can I fix this? o3o

EDIT: I downloaded .NET framework 3.5 and (now) UTAU works.

I just got it installed (harddrive failed :p)

...it installed?

I can't get past that point...(I can't read the errors)

...oh wait...*face-palm*
---
I was installing an anti-virus at the same time...(=_=)
---
...now I need sound drivers...now that won't work...

Well, my Windows 8 copy IS original, and yet UTAU doesn't work properly for me, and my current OS is Windows 7.
I know htat I can Virtualize an OS on Windows 8, but I would like to avoid that, cause virtualization has its limitations (even though UTAU doesn't require much memory to run...)

Oh, and @Hentai, I tried that fix, which I mentioned (indirectly) on my first post. And that didn't work either. For me, UTAU simply refuses to recognize that component.

Edit: I sincerely can't understand my computer........ I am not sure what I did, but I managed to make UTAU recognize the component, and now it even generates and recognizes the setting, ini file... Oh well

The thing with Windows is that they make a great OS (ex. Windows 7, XP) then they come out with a crappy one (ex. Windows 8, Vista).....so I bet their next OS after 8 will be awesome. I'm gonna wait till then and just stick it out on Windows 7. Good luck with the rest of you though trying to get UTAU to work.

Windows 8 is a good OS.

It's just that if your computer is a little slower it crashes its self (dpc_watchdog)

In my case my replacement hard-drive is also failing (if this goes then thats it, no computer for a few years)

Due to this my hard-drive lags behind (and in some cases my video drivers) and the computer isn't even allowed to recover, it just kills itself off...
(many people hate this, just too much)

But if it works, then it WORKS GREAT...
-----------------------------------------------------
!!!!!!BTW!!!!! ...Windows 8 is ruffly the same as Windows 7...in terms of speed, however if your computer doesn't have touch ajnd/or is not a tablet then it becomes more cumbersome.../\/\/\/\/\err...yea i think thats the correct word...

Windows 7 is good till 2020 so you don't need to bother with it (Their is no drivers or antivirus that work either)If you need drivers then use the 7/vista ones NOT the 8 Betas...
-----------------------------------------------------
The only difference between 7 and 8 is the windows 8 starts-up and shuts-down faster, Other then that it is the same...
-----------------------------------------------------
UTAU BTW...works "right out of the box", I had no issues...if you do then try a windows update, they can fix a lot.
