What kind of Microphone are you using?

So, the microphone that I am using now is from my schools book list.

It is one of those earphones that have a mic attached to it but using a separated wire/port thingo that you plug into the computer, unlike mobile/iPhone earphones.

the quality is ok, but over a while it brakes and there is so much background noise and static sounds.

what I wanted to know is,
where do you get your microphone; shops like jb-hifi, some other electrical store or other.
How much did it cost.
What type; computer mic, earphones, or those huge ones that are like, use for karaoke or similar.

I really need a new microphone but when I walk in to a shop, I wouldn't have a clue for what to look for  ....that's why I need your help!!

Any recommendations as well? 

all my utau projects are on halt because of mic issues....
